Kentucky fans might be a bit pessimistic about the upcoming football season but recruits still seem to believe in coach Mark Stoops and his staff.

The Wildcats got another big-time commitment Thursday from four-star Tyrell Ajian of Ohio. The 6-1, 185-pound Ajian is a skilled athlete who had 19 touchdowns last year while running for 551 yards and catching passes for 783. He also had 56 tackles and three interceptions on defense.

Most recruiting analysts project him a a defensive back in college. He’s regarded as one of the top 10 juniors in Ohio and ESPN currently has him ranked as the nation’s 82 best prospect.

He had been a frequent visitor to UK and a priority target for UK. He had numerous other scholarship offers including Notre Dame, Michigan and Nebraska.

Ajian gives UK commitments from six of the top 30 players in Ohio in the 2017 recruiting class and boosts the Cats to No. 6 nationally in the 2017 recruiting race by 247Sports.com. That puts UK one spot up on Alabama and FIRST in the SEC.

It’s only April, but still for UK to be ranked No. 1 in recruiting in the SEC at any time is huge.

Just think how much easier it will be for them to recruit, if they start putting together a string of bowl games.

Ohio has been good to us recruiting wise for the past few years.
