I can see both sides of the argument. If it were up for vote today I would probably lean very slightly, and cautiously toward yes.

Any thoughts?

Extreme caution. I think SOMEONE in every school should be armed, but not unless they are fully qualified and their background thoroughly checked, including psychologically. There are nut jobs in the teaching profession as well.

Agree with Norm. Just because someone enters the teaching profession doesn't mean they are any less susceptible to mental illness or instability than anybody else.

I like the idea of having somebody who can use deadly force when necessary on school grounds, but that must be very, very carefully controlled.

The situation right now, with "gun free zones", is just an invitation to more massacres.

There are better ways, like airport-type security or other highly sophisticated monitoring methods, but they are simply cost prohibitive.

It's really shameful when a parent shops for their child's school supplies and the first item on the list is a bullet-proof back pack, and part of that child's learning experience is routine active-shooter drills.

There are not a lot of other options left, but I agree with Tiptree and Norm...anyone permitted to carry a firearm on school grounds must be thoroughly and seriously vetted.

These are the sad, but real, times we live in.
