As University of Kentucky students continue to get settled in on campus and prepare for the first day of classes on Monday, John Calipari did his part to make the newcomers feel welcome.
In a video published late Friday evening, the Kentucky basketball head coach told incoming students to stay safe, wear a mask, and enjoy themselves.
“Welcome to our freshmen at the University of Kentucky! Welcome to campus! Yeah, it’s Coach Cal with the beard and the man bun rolling in the back, the hipster. I’m here to welcome you, but first I’m going to tell you, make sure you be safe.
“Masks, wear that mask, wash your hands, social distance, because we want this thing to go, and we want it to go for you. I want you to have an unbelievable experience. You’ve worked your whole life to be in college, to get this opportunity. We’re going to do everything we can. You’ve got to do everything you’re supposed to and take care of you.”
If they can stay safe and minimize opportunities for potential coronavirus outbreaks on campus, chances of college sports being played this year increase.
“We can’t wait until you can cheer for our teams,” Calipari continued. “It may not be in person for a minute, but hopefully that comes about so you can really feel what the University of Kentucky is all about. Welcome to the campus.”
