The Wildcats became the fastest school to reach 600 wins in an arena in NCAA history, as they achieved the milestone at the 43-year-old building named after Adolph Rupp in 670 games, which surpassed the pace of UCLA (689 games at Pauley Pavilion) and Kansas (699 at Allen Fieldhouse).
John Calipari has won 312 games overall and 173 at home since coming to Lexington, which includes five seasons in which Kentucky did not lose a home game, as he played a major part in getting the Wildcats to 600 home victories faster than any school ever has.
After the game, Calipari spoke briefly on the accomplishment while making sure to credit Rupp, a well as Joe B. Hall, who was Kentucky’s head coach when the school began playing games in Rupp Arena.
“This started with Coach Rupp. He never really got to coach in this building, but everyone who has followed him has won a national title, just about everybody,” Calipari stated. “Everyone that has followed him has probably won 90% of their games in this building. So, it’s not just me. It’s everybody.
“I brag on Coach Hall on the time because who would want to follow that? And he did and went to Final Fours and won a national title.”
Here’s to 600 more.
