Based on what we have seen so far, I think this would be in the ball park.

I hope we are better than that! An 11 seed means we are rated somewhere in the low-40s nationwide.

Tiptree predicts that this team will get a lot better over the next month, take a lot of lumps getting there, and develop a real sense of mission along the way. We may end up a 6 or 7 seed (and that would sting too), but we will go deeper than most people think.

The pieces are there. If Baker can stay on the court without further injury, and Herro regain his shooting touch, we mix and match on the perimeter from shooters (Baker, Herro, Johnson) and drivers (Hagans, Quickly, and Johnson). PJ and company inside can pose an adequate inside game. It really depends on our defense going forward.

PJ should be dominating! he should be treating opponents like he treated Seton Hall. With that PJ, and improved outside shooting, i like our chances.

If PJ were 3 inches taller or 25 pounds beefier, then he would dominate a lot more than he does. He is unfortunately a "3" sized player playing a "4". The key to his game is work on his outside shot and his handle.

To his credit, he plays a lot "bigger" than he actually is. He has some sweet moves inside, and can rebound well when he wants to. I honestly think that UK would do better utilizing PJ similar to the way Golden State uses Draymond Green.

Unless they improve considerably from where they are right now, they may be an NIT team rather than an 11 seed in the NCAA. I hope they can show us they are starting to gel as a team by beating UNC this Saturday. That would do a lot for their national reputation and hopefully make them start believing they can beat anyone they play. I am still not convinced but am waiting for a quality win away from Rupp arena, something we have not seen thus far this season. If they lost to both UNC and U of L, both of which they are currently underdogs, they are going to have a tough time finishing in the top five of the SEC.

I'm with SCWC. Unless this team improves considerably, we could be a NIT team. Based on the way our players have played to date and the teams we have played, I think CBS may be generous.

There may be a world of potential there and we may indeed improve to the point where we may get a much better NCAA bid.

Agree. He needs space to operate and "spacing" UK is not creating currently on the offensive end.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I like PJ but don't think he works hard enough on a consistent basis to make it to the next level of basketball. I certainly hope he does but he tends to rest too much during action to give this team what it needs in addition to more quality size.

We got lucky one yr being a high seed and making it to the final four.

Generally a high seed 6 or higher (especially) means zero chance for a Nat Title....
This yr that is us..

Our recruiting has to get a lot better than it has in the past several yrs to contend....

A team with 5 McDonald's All-Americans playing in the NIT....what's wrong with this picture?

I still maintain that we are in the typical pre-camp Cal blues. This team "feels" a lot like last year's team, in that they are playing more like a collection of individuals than a team. We have bruised egos from getting thumped by Duke and losing to Seton Hall.

I feel that pain too (especially when I wear my UK hat in New York!). But I don't share the incredible pessimism I see here.

Give Cal a chance -- the next three weeks are break, and there are no limits on contact time for the coaches. Camp Cal is underway! The results will be mixed for a while, but my mid-January, we will see if he can transform these five-stars into a formidable team.

We need to improve in some very coachable things:

* Fewer turnovers
* Better defense
* Consistent rebounding

We score well enough to win... IF we can play the kind of defense that this team should be playing. Coupled with vastly improving our defense, we need to protect the ball and rebound relentlessly. Do those things, and we will all start looking forward to a deep run in the tourney. But give this team time to get the intense coaching it needs!

Tiptree, I hate to say it but I fear Cal is teaching 20th century basketball in the 21st century. We are the only major college team I know that does not run a three point offense, Cal never has and probably never will. I am not sure he knows anything but the out dated dribble drive.
I watch a ton of basketball and most of the top teams spread the floor and look for the three point shot as a regular part of their offense, that is always the last option in Cal's offense.

Just look at the teams we have played, not an away game yet on the other teams court and 8 no name teams in Rupp arena which were automatic wins. Other SEC teams have upgraded their schedules but we have not at UK. Yes, we did play Duke, will play North Carolina and Kansas which are all top teams this year but I fear this team will lose to U of L which is one team we should be able to handle easily if we had the team everyone expected us to have back prior to the start of the season. I just do not see the talent on this team this year to go very far. Camp Cal is highly overrated in my opinion. If he can win his next two games between North Carolina and U of L, maybe we will be making some progress. I think the UK name has gone down hill considerably since the 2015 loaded talent team failed to finish the season as National Champions. Ky basketball has been on a downhill slide since that season.

SCWC, I agree with you! See my post in the other thread. But, even so, we score sufficient points. It is those other factors that kill us, especially our defense.

Would I love Cal to pick up a more modern offense? Heck yes!!!!! It would be a huge improvement. But this team has issues not related to offense that are much more pressing, IMO.

Totally agree about this insufficiencies of this current team Tip. We are on basically the same page when it comes to basketball 101.
