From USA Today:
Derek Willis won't miss any game time, John Calipari said Thursday, but after the senior was arrested for public intoxication in June the coach said Willis is facing increased scrutiny.
"You guys know I don't throw people under the bus," Calipari said. You guys know how I am and we deal with every situation in its own right and we gather the information, and Derek knows that he's under a different eye now than he was. I'm not gonna tell you specifically what we did or didn't do. I'm not gonna write your stories or do all that stuff, but obviously he and I've talked a few different times."
Willis averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds during his breakout junior season. Asked if he would use Willis' incident as a teaching tool, Calipari said his players understand the attention their high profile attracts.
"That's being here. That's being at Kentucky. You can't talk your way out of it. And that includes our staff. I can't go anywhere that they're not taking pictures of me sending them somewhere," Calipari said. "These kids know. They're under a microscope. I tell 'em, that's the downside of being here, is that side. The good thing about being here is your at Kentucky and everyone wants to be here. You're having the opportunity to do this and those things and you have to deal with the other side of it."
