Too often this season Skal Labissiere and I have had the same number of rebounds in games. Kentucky coach John Calipari has been on Labissiere about his rebounding for months — and that won’t change tonight against Georgia.

“That’s something I think about all the time,” Labissiere said Monday about his rebounding woes.

It has been so bad that against Florida when the 7-foot freshman got a rebound the Rupp Arena crowd cheered.

“I heard some. I heard a little bit,” he said.

He called it a “good thing” for fans to cheer like that. He also said it was okay for UK fans to pay attention to every detail.

“I think everything is magnified here at Kentucky. So I think the fans definitely really pay attention to everything we do,” he said. “It’s just something that you just have to get used to.”

Skal's whole problem is that he is 'thinking', not just playing.

The kid has so much talent and seems so confused. Stop thinking rebounding first, stop thinking 'toughness', just react to the game in real time.

TT, I agree it looks to me he is afraid of making a mistake rather than making a play. A lot of that could be corrected by the coachs if they would just let him play and use his God given talents.

I agree, he needs to just go out, play hard and let hope his natural abilities put him in the right position at the right time to block shots, get rebounds and do the things he needs to do to solidify himself as a first round draft pick. We need a rim protector, something Cal's teams have always had until this season. We do not have a consistent shot blocker and I know we all thought Skal would fill that bill.

Poythress is our leading rebounder with 6.6 boards a game which is good but not great. The thing that stands out is that he is able to produce these boards in just a little more than half a game. (24 minutes a game) If we want more rebounds we need him in the game another 10 minutes a game. Skal averages 2.7 boards a game but averages just under 17 minutes a game.

We are going to have to have people step up their game and help out rebounding.

Poy is our leading rebounder and that hurts to have him out for weeks.

We have played two of our better games of the season without POY, hopefully that can continue until he returns. At times I almost think we are a better team without him but know that is not true. The inside seems to open up more for the guards when POY is not in the game for some reason or another.

Skal had one of his better efforts in a long time too last night. Hopefully he will find himself, get his game together and when we get Alex back we will be ready to make a run toward March Madness.

It's really good to know we are at a point where we can make a run in the NCAA tournament as it wasn't long ago some were thinking we wouldn't even make the tournament.
