Dominique Hawkins is scheduled to practice tonight to see if has recovered from his sprained ankle to the point he might be able to play Thursday at Arkansas and give UK coach John Calipari a presence off bench the coach says his team has missed.

"We’re going to have individual (workouts) here in a little while and then film when I get back in and then we’re practicing tonight," Calipari said on the SEC teleconference Monday. "I texted him this morning. He told me that he would practice. I said, ‘Well, if you’re going to only do one, do the evening practice.’

"So that’ll be good, because now we kind of get him back in there and see where he is physically. You know, it’s just hard. The way these games are going, where everybody’s on a high playing us, you cannot – whatever is holding you back from really high-energy play, you gotta figure it out.

Does anyone know when Tai Wynard will be ready to play in games? He could give us a boost!

Blue Hoot, Here is a recent video of him talking about Kentucky and expects to play when Cal sends him into the game.

I was a little out of shape when I arrived'", admitted Wynyard. "I wasn't expecting all this running, but coach Payne has been working with me a lot, and I'm starting to feel really good."

Despite having spent time in the Tall Black and Breakers environments, the most challenging aspect of his transition into the college realm has been the increased level of competition.

"It's really high," he notes. "Back home I played a lot with men in that competition which prepared me a lot, but this is just another step up. Everyone's a lot more athletic and physical."

Wynyard is well aware of the areas in which he needs to improve in order to make an impression on a demanding staff, which includes arguably the best coach in the NCAA in the legendary John Calipari.

"I've got to get better, get stronger. Push everybody around and try to assert my physical dominance. I'll be ready when he (Calipari) calls my name."

In spite of such daunting stakes Wynyard's self-assurance hasn't wavered, displaying a confidence he attributes to the lessons learnt from his father, world champion woodchopper Jason Wynyard.

"It's all in the mind, that's what my Dad has taught me my whole life."

The suggestion of any pressure inspires a mere shrug of the shoulders from the 2.01 metre Aucklander.

Catmandoo, Thanks a bunch for providing the video! He seems really determined and excited about joining the team. Can't wait to see him in action!

blue, I bet Hawkins is jumping out of skin waiting to play. He is a true Kentucky born player that is devoted to the University and his team.

I just do not see Ty Wynyard playing very much if at all at UK. He has the body but lacks the natural basketball skills to be able to help us as a team. We have certainly missed Hawkins, he could have made the difference in the Auburn loss the other night, he and Briscoe are our best perimeter defenders and as we all know, Auburn killed us from behind the three point line.

Auburn made 12 3's and shot 46% for the game. The bad part was we knew going in that they were a good 3 point shooting team and still didn't get out on their shooters. We could have used Hawkins for sure.

I believe for the first time in a few years, our height hurts us defending the three. Especially with our guards.

Maybe Ulis but the rest of our guards are tall and quick.
