I think two senators shot themselves in the foot this afternoon. One democrat and one RINO. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and Mitt Romney of Utah. West Virginia is a red state, and Mister Manchin usually is a moderate. I predict that he will lose his seat in his next election. I would be tempted to bet money, that Mister Romney will lose his as well. Nobody likes a traitor.
P.S. Ms Pelosi should lose because of her very childish actions, but being from California, she'll be hailed as a heroine.

Mitt Romney is 73 years old and has 4 years left in his senate term. I have no idea if he will be interested in a senate seat in 4 years when he will be 77. Several have served longer than that but many more have given up their political careers by that age.
While I don’t agree with his decision, I believe he made it in good faith. He had nothing to gain politically with this decision as Utah is bright red. The left will certainly not embrace him long term. He is smart enough to realize this and must know that he is now politically dead.
On the other hand, he has a lot to lose. He will be demonized by the right, shunned by the left and ignored by the rest. Trump will make every attempt to get revenge. He has demonstrated this too ofto through out his life. I hope our president will have the integrity to keep Senator Romney’s family out of it.
Right or wrong, I believe him when he said he said this decision was based on his faith and what he perceived as gross misconduct.

MM … you said that in a month you would be surprised if people were talking about Impeachment let alone in November. In the Witness thread Norm said it would cost the Dems in the next election but you said you wouldn't bet the farm on it because 75% of Americans wanted to hear from witnesses. If 75% want to hear from the witnesses (which I don't agree with your statement … which is neither here nor there) then why won't the American people remember it in a month as well as next November ??? In one instance you say voters won't be discussing it in a month but in another you say you wouldn't bet the farm on the GOP winning lots of seats because of what happened in the Impeachment process … I think it has to be one or the other … can't be both. Just MHO

What I mean is: By November the impeachment will be a long forgotten footnote filed away under the "yeah, but" category. Because soon (I predict) there will be another crisis, then another, then another, then........don't know what but I know it's coming, you know it's coming...hell, we all know it's coming.

It really isn't that simple, MM. There are at least five different tribes that can be called "Kurds". They speak different languages, have different religions, and really don't even like one another. To speak of "the Kurds" as one entity is as silly as speaking of "Europe" as if they are one people.
ONE of those tribes of Kurds have established a great relationship with the United States, created a viable state in Northern Iraq, and remain a staunch and valued ally in the region. When the Turks invaded northern Syria, the Kurds that were there were the same tribe that supports the "PKK", a group that mainly lives in Turkey and has been waging a low-level guerilla/terrorism campaign against the Turks for decades. We have NO relationship with that group of Kurds, so we could not in any way "abandon" them.
Of course, the democrats (who should have had access to this knowledge) chose to express faux outrage to score political points.
To reiterate, the US did NOT abandon the Kurds who are our allies. We did not offer to defend another group of Kurds whom we have no relationship with. So, given that, do you think we should have defended them?

The "honest to God" truth of the matter is, nearly ALL democrats have a visceral HATE for President Donald J Trump and it is simply because he defeated their "Queen Hillary", fair and square. And yes, that include 3 of my own children; the three that went to Murray State and graduated brainwashed.

Norm … that is happening all over the US at colleges and universities !!! Being led down paths without thinking for themselves !!! Brain washed is the exact definition of what is going on all over college and university campuses !!! I am so happy my two daughters graduated before a lot of this started … and had preparation for what they were going to be taught and to think it through not just follow it !!!
The Dems hate Trump so much that if he said the sky was blue and the earth was round they would move heaven and earth to try and prove him wrong !!!
Look up what he did to President Obama and his trying to get free vacations for the next 17 years paid for by you and I !!! Trump really is taking care of our economy and the money we send to Washington.

The toxic political atmosphere in this country in not only ending friendships, some of them life long, but literally tearing families apart. I have experienced all of the above. It seems none of us will even listen to political opinions other than our own. God forbid should we let someone influence our “set in stone” political ideas of the way things should be.
Norm, I have an educated daughter and grandson that is a graduate student at UK that now identifies as Democratic Socialists. Like to guess who they are backing in this Democratic primary?
IMO, there is no one on the political horizon that has a snowballs chance in hell of bringing this country together.

MM, I am not sure what your question means, but that area of Syria is exactly what I am talking about. The Kurds in and around Roja are influenced by, if not ruled by, the PKK; the PKK is the political/military/terrorist group known as the "Kurdistan Workers Party". It is this group of Kurds that have been at war with Turkey for decades.
They are NOT the same Kurds that have been our allies and whom we still support in Northern Iraq.
Just as a Greek and a Dane can both claim to be "European" does not mean that they are really from the same background. The PKK is a toxic group based in Turkey, We owe them no allegiance.

Let me ask you a pointed question. What would you be here harping about if we DID stay and defend our supposed allies in the SDF, and then got into a shooting war with Turkey, Russia, and/or Iran? I think I know the answer, but I sure would love to hear it from you.

You make it sound like all the SDF did was unfriend ISIS on Facebook.
We helped create the SDF, we trained them, we supplied them, we fought with them, we bled with them and we died with them.
They were literally our 'boots on the ground'...literally.
They lost 11,000 fighters, we lost 6...could've been a lot different.
