Miles and Robinson rank among the best in the state, and they proved it again Thursday at the Class 3A Metea Valley Sectional, where they went head-to-head in the 400 and 200 and were both on the track for the 400-meter relay.

Miles, a Kentucky recruit, had the upper hand. She finished first in all three events to help lead the Blackhawks to the team title with 100.3 points, but stomach cramps kept her from running in the 1,600 relay, which did not advance.

The two-time defending state champion in the 400, Miles won that event in 55.23 seconds, took the 200 in 25.02 and anchored the 400 relay with Nia Wood, Rashida Naylor and Savanna Ming that finished in 48.23.

The top two finishers in each event and any others meeting a qualifying time or mark advance to next weekend’s state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
