Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is big on routine. The problem is, bowl games are anything but.

The bevy of bowl festivities can serve as additional distractions and being in a new city with the players on semester break, bowl prep can feel more like spring break if you're not careful.

"It's always our mindset before we leave Lexington that we're game ready and then you come here and just freshen up," Stoops said Friday. "There's still work to be done. We want to be as prepared as we can be but it goes faster here. There are a lot of events. I try to be very cognizant of their time how much we're putting them on a bus and running around to different events and making sure they're hungry and fresh and ready to go."

On top of that, Kentucky will play Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl on Tuesday and being so close to the Christmas and New Year's holidays, this is hardly your typical game week.

That's where Stoops' routine comes in handy.

After traveling to Charlotte on Thursday, the Wildcats went through their first workout Friday but Stoops made sure it felt more like a Tuesday.

If we're not lucky we will be playing the bowl game in what was our normal weather conditions this year. R_A_I_N !!!! At least we will have that experience since that's about all we saw at the end of the regular season.

I think rain would be to our advantage.
