The University of Kentucky football team will be playing Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl on New Year's Eve.

The game will be held December 31st at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kick-off is set for noon.

The announcement came as a surprise after multiple outlets first reported on Saturday afternoon that the Wildcats had secured a spot in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against the Indiana Hoosiers.

However, sources say there was some last minute shuffling amongst SEC teams. UK was awarded the matchup against Virginia Tech when the official announcements were made at 4:30p.m.

Virginia Tech finished the regular season 8-4 with a 5-3 record in the ACC, which was the second best record in the conference. The Hokies did not play Louisville this season.

We should be playing in the Gator bowl, but Elmer fudd had to cry and complain to get his way. I hate Tennessee.

Yeah, that "last minute change" reeks of back-room politics. Where was our AD and coach? Just waiting patiently while Tennessee whined its way to the better bowl?

Nothing sucks like a Big Orange.

OMG...Hate Tennessee even more. What a bunch of crybabies. They're all bunch of flunkies. I can't believe I'm saying this but I will be a big Hoosier fan on Jan 2nd!

One interesting point that I read is that the Belk Bowl has a bigger payout than the Gator Bowl, so we did get more money! At least there's that!

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the league take all of the bowl money, put it in a pot and divide it amoungst the teams in the conference?

Does that mean the teams that are on probation and don't qualify for a bowl don't get the proceeds earned from the bowl pot?

I don't know who your source is but, Bama ain't in the playoffs and neither Mississippi school is in a new year's six game.
