Well, the game is underway and nobody started a thread. We started off looking pretty good on the first offensive possession, but *bam* -- we throw into a pick-six and end up down 7-0.

There have been offsetting unsportsmanlike contact calls, and a warning on the MSU bench. The MSU players are pumped up and getting in our faces.

But, our ground game is really strong. Let's just pound it down their throats.

Darn. A run for no-gain then a fumble on the snap, recovered by Smoke.

3rd and 13. Deep ball to Ali, who falls down. [Frown]

Duffy's punt is a touchback. Now we get to see the MSU offense.

We get a stop on 3rd and 10, incomplete deep pass attempt by MSU.

Let's get on the board!

Rose get a 31-yard run, first down at the 41.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 04:27 PM:

Wagner gets the reception for a first down UK.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 04:28 PM:

Bowden gets 16 yards out of the wildcat! We are moving the ball.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 04:30 PM:

Smoke gets two short gains. 3rd and 6 at the 22. Smith overthrows Wagner...

UK comes out with a fieldgoal. MSU leads 7-3.

Well, I guess it is odd just talking to myself. See y'all.

Tip, sorry i had a doctor's appointment.

Just got home and things are not looking so good.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:01 PM:

No, they are not looking good. MSU is playing with enthusiasm and fire. UK is doing just "OK"...

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:01 PM:

Darn. Missed a sac, and the QB took off and scrambled for nearly a first down.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:03 PM:

So far, we have been executing well, but missing on key opportunities. The initial MSU TD was a pick-six, just a poor call by the QB. Then Lynn Boyden missed on a long pass play. And the missed sac just resulted in a sustained drive for MSU.

MSU with a 1st and goal on the 2 yard line. *sigh*

TD MSU. 21-3

Bowden gets a First Down. Then Smith gets sacked for a loss.

Nothing is clicking for this team. Let's see if we can hold on for the half and make some adjustments for the second half.

Things are not looking good for the Cats.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:16 PM:

The MSU QB is a true freshman, but he is poised and has a good arm. He is shredding us.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:27 PM:

This game is 'just out of reach'... too many passes off the fingertips, too many missed tackles, too many poor decisions by our QB.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:28 PM:

Another sack. Sawyer Smith is not having a good day.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:32 PM:

UK misses a 47-yard field-goal attempt. But offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct calls resulted in a dismissal of a MSU player -- one of their best defenders, and the one who took the interception into the endzone.

MSU goes into halftime leading UK 21-3. It is NOT a good outing for UK.

We look like the bad news bears, that first half.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:39 PM:

Our offensive line has given up 5 sacks, Smith has thrown 1 interception and had a fumbled snap (recovered), and has had some key passes dropped by his receivers.

On the other side, our defense has been abused by Schroeder, who is a true freshman that is just shredding our secondary.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 05:58 PM:

Aaargh... another missed sack ends up with a big gain for MSU. They look like they are going to score on their first drive of the second half.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:01 PM:

We knocked a pass down that would have been a touchdown. 3rd and 1 for MSU in the red zone.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:05 PM:

Cats force a fumble on a hard hit on Schroeder. Whew!

Now, let's get some offensive rhythm going and SCORE!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:12 PM:

Another dropped TD pass. That makes 3. Smith can throw the ball deep with touch, but our receivers cannot bring it in with any contact.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:19 PM:

UK scores on a Rose run. Down 21-10. WE MUST STOP MSU to have any chance now.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:33 PM:

Defense gets a stop, and we take over on the 25. Another TD would make this a game again!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:39 PM:

Damn. First and goal, and we get a short run and two incompletions.

We miss the field goal, a mere chip shot.

Damn. That might be it for UK. MSU 21-10.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:42 PM:

WTF? Kentucky is going into a soft, prevent-style defense?

We need to get after them and force a turnover!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:44 PM:

Yes! Schroeder goes down on a sack!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:45 PM:

Schroeder runs it on 3rd and 19, and comes up well short.

Now we will get another shot.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 06:46 PM:

Bowden returns it for 25 yards. Now lets get going, Cats!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 07:01 PM:

UK falters in the red zone, and ends up with a field goal.

21-13 MSU. If we can get a quick stop and actually score a TD, we could tie on a 2-point conversion.

Not likely, but there is a chance!

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 07:05 PM:

3rd and 4 for MSU. Critical play for the Cats defense.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 07:07 PM:

Well, thats the ball-game. UK brought pressure and Schroeder ran it all the way inside UK's 20. Red zone for MSU.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 07:10 PM:

Schroeder keeps it again and takes it to UK's 1. First and goal at the 1.

Hill takes it in for his third TD today. MSU 28-13.

Posted by Tiptree (Member # 844) on 09-21-2019, 07:12 PM:

Kentucky had Schroeder contained on the 3rd and 4, but Square got spun around and let Schroeder get through clean.

So many missed tackles, missed sacks, dropped passes, two missed field goals, and that horrible pick-six. We just did not execute well. This could have been a UK win, had we executed even a little better.

Smith is playing hurt, and there was a chance he was going to be pulled earlier to bring in Walker Wood. He looks like his shoulder is really bothering. We may lose our second QB of the season.

Final score is 28-13 MSU.

I hope this doesn't get in the player's psyche.

Tip - bravo for all your posts in this thread. I didn't get to watch any football yesterday until ND/UGA last night. It was nice waking up this morning and reading your play-by-play. Kind of put into perspective exactly what i missed yesterday. So don't feel like you were just "talking to yourself". [Smile]
