UK coach Mark Stoops hinted on his radio show Monday that he might take a more active approach in defensive game planning, and he confirmed that on his Wednesday SEC teleconference.

“The question was asked and I think you’re asking the same thing, ‘will you take a more active role,’ and the answer to that is yes, I will take a more active role,” Stoops said. As far as the structure of our staff, that has not changed. Coach Eliot is the defensive coordinator. I’m assisting him but I’m much more involved this week and I will be until we get things turned.”

Eliot’s defense is ranked 100th or worse in passing defense, rushing defense, plays ran against it and opponent third down conversion rate. Eliot was brought by Stoops from Florida State. The coaches are in their fourth year together at Kentucky.

Sure is a good thing he took a key role in the defense, otherwise we would have given up over 1000 yards on Saturday night!
