They also could play 10 redshirt freshmen too. We are a very young team for sure.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops says he could play anywhere from nine to 11 true freshmen in Saturday’s season-opening game and another 10 redshirt freshmen.

Freshmen tight end C.J. Conrad, right tackle George Asafo-Adjei and cornerback Chris Westry were listed as starters on the depth chart UK released Monday as expected.

Running back Sihiem King is also the first player listed among kick returners.

“Sihiem has done a nice job. He’s been very explosive in camp; he’s made big plays. He’s protected the football. He’s proven to be a playmaker, so we want to give him the opportunity and get the ball in his hands and see if he can make some plays. As you know, we need to improve and become more explosive in the return game and hopefully he has that spark,” Stoops said.

Other true freshmen listed second on the depth chart include linebackers Kengera Daniel, Josh Allen and Eli Brown and cornerback Derrick Baity.

“KG (Daniel) is a guy that will play as well. He’s done a good job. He’s got a lot on his plate — as I talk about all the time with that outside linebacker position — so he’s done a good job. He’s learning. He’s getting better every day,” Stoops said.

Linebacker Denzil Ware is the only redshirt freshman listed at No. 1 at his position but plenty more are listed at No. 2.

If those young men are the most talented at their respective positions then Stoops doesn't have a choice but to play them!

It is a testament to the current staffs recruiting. I look for more departures, at the end of the season, with older players leaving who have fallen down the depth chart. But, all programs have players that leave every year for injuries or lack of playing time.

It's sounding like our freshmen are impressing the coaching staff.
