This is great news and will only make us that much better. I just wish they were both a little more nimble as it's a big advantage when your playing against SEC defense's every week.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops knows it sounds like a “broken record” when he talks about UK’s quarterback situation with junior Patrick Towles and redshirt freshman Drew Barker.

“There’s good and bad and there is every day. There’s days when one or the other does separate himself, but not consistently, not every day,” said Stoops after Wednesday’s practice. “ As I said throughout the spring and I saw it again today, we’re improving at that position. Both guys are improving. So that’s a good thing.”

Receiver Jeff Badet says he sees no difference in the quarterbacks.

“A lot of times I can’t even tell who is back there throwing because the ball just always comes out so well,” Badet said. “To me, it’s good to have two quarterbacks so good that you can’t tell the difference in who is throwing.”

It's going to be a battle and will go down to the wire on who the starter will be.

I would prefer to see a two QB system, this season.

If the race is too close to call, play them both.

Towles has the position - Barker will only play when he can't. No issue that I can see..

If Towles doesn't improve by leaps and bounds over last season, I sure wouldn't anoint him the permanent starter.

Boom according to this KSR article he is doing just that:

The hottest topic for the common fan is the Quarterback position. Shannon Dawson has given his QBs additional responsibilities; instead of having the whole team look to the sidelines for calls, it’s all on the QB now. There’s a lot more deep balls being thrown, even though they aren’t too efficient…yet.

Patrick Towles looks great after bulking up in the offseason and has become much more accurate in the short game. More importantly, 3rd and long is no longer impossible because Pat is excellent with 8-15 yard routes. He seems comfortable with the added responsibilities, making last-second adjustments against blitzes with ease. Barker doesn’t look like a young pup anymore, staying composed in the pocket on the field, while improving his composure off the field.

A starter will not be announced until the Fall, but I highly doubt Towles will let Barker take his job.

We have seen QBs get leap frogged when the fall starts. That is why coaches should never name a starter in the spring. Andre Woodson was 2nd string at the end of spring practice and ended up being the starter in the fall.

No way. Poor coaching if they can't pick a starter. The old saying about QB's has been proven over and over: "If you have two QB's, you really have no QB's".

Even the great Tom Landry found that out when he tried to play Staubach and Morton the same season.

Some people may think Barker is not the real deal. I still think he is.

boom,

I have no idea who the QB should be but I hope they make a decision and stick with one. I actually thought the coaching staff gave up on Patrick last year. He had one bad game and that was enough to pull the reigns in on him.

All I know is that whichever guy they pick the offensive coordinator has to push the ball down field. You can't continually try and throw the ball 10 yards from the line of scrimmage and win in the SEC if you are UK.

I don't subscribe to that belief, that a team must only use one QB. Whatever the situation ends up being, I just want better production from the position, more points on the board, and more wins for the season.

boom,

I can't think of any situations where a two QB system has produced results (what I mean is having two healthy QB's and switching back and forth between them, not like the OSU situation where they had guys step in for injuries).

The closest that I can think of would be Chris Leak and Tim Tebow, but Tebow was used on the goal line only for running the ball into the endzone.

I believe Georgia platooned at one time and they won a lot of games.

Florida, when they were coached by Spurrier, played multiple QB a lot of seasons. The ol ball coach demanded production from the QB position. If they didn't produce, he yanked them out and put in another one.

I recall Tebow being platooned at Florida. I don;t recall seeing any ballyhoo that he shouldn't play. Tebow started out only at the goal line and then they expanded his duties.

By the way, Tebow has to be the dumbest football player on the planet, with the NFL team s telling him that he is not good enough to be a QB but should play TE and him refusing. I can't stand him in the broadcast booth. He won't last there.
