The Capitol One award has to be a special for Foster to win. Happy for him.

Kentucky junior punter Landon Foster has been named second-team Capital One Academic All-America, announced on Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Foster, a native of Franklin, Tenn., punted 66 times in 2014, for a 42.6 yard average, including a career-long 60 yard punt at No. 22 Louisville in the season finale. Foster owns 195 punts in his career, with a 42.2 yard average, ranking third in UK history. Foster tied the school record with 27 punts dropped inside the 20-yard line in 2014 and owns 55 punts downed inside the 20 in his career. He also has 39 career punts of at least 50 yards.

In the classroom, Foster has a cumulative 4.0 GPA as a double major in finance and marketing. Foster is the 20th player in Kentucky history to earn academic All-America honors since 1971. Since 1954, a total of 563 Wildcats have earned SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades. In November, Kentucky was an honorable mention selection by the American Football Coaches Association’s 2014 Academic Achievement Award.

Foster is UK’s first CoSIDA Academic All-America selection since Tim Masthay was tabbed a second-team honoree in 2007 and a first-team selection in 2008.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

An A;;-American is an All-American. Academic is one of the hardest ones to acquire, anyway.

It's awfully hard to get your assignments done let alone getting straight A's while practicing football and getting your head beat in every day. Congrats to Landon and a job well done on the field and off the field.

Well...... A punter may not get his head beat in as much as some of the other players on the team do.

As long as you get a good snap from center you are fine but get one that isn't so good and you can feel a wrath of pain. [Wink]

He doesn't take any contact in practice either!

I know I punted in high school and never once got injured. It was a great job as long as the center did his job.
