Dupree has been a special player for Kentucky and will be missed next year. Leaders are hard to come by and Dupree is one of the best.

Saturday will be the final home game for Kentucky senior Bud Dupree, a likely first-round NFL draft pick in 2015.

He came to play for coach Joker Phillips but has flourished under coach Mark Stoops and his staff and is on the verge of getting UK to its first bowl game in his career.

“Bud has been a tremendous leader on top of a great player and an excellent spokesperson for our football team,” UK defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot said. “He’s been the face of our program this year. He’s a guy that is going to be remembered around here for a long time and is a guy we want our players to aspire to be like.”

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops knew plenty about Dupree when he got to UK because Eliot had tried to recruit him at Florida State.

“Of course, when we got here and started watching all the film we saw the talent in Bud. Obviously, that’s a pleasant surprise to have a player like that,” Stoops said. “He could play anywhere in the country.

“He’s been a good leader. It’s very important for him to go out and play well down the stretch. So, just proud of Bud and what he’s done, just like all these seniors. They’ve been a special group to coach.
