Boom is multi-talented but the coaching staff are bringing him along slowly so he can learn each facet of the college game.

Freshman running back Stanley “Boom” Wiliams will return kickoffs for UK Saturday while trying to work his way into the backfield rotation.

“He’s a guy I will be excited to see him with the ball in his hands. He definitely is a difference maker. Same with Mikel. Mikel Horton is the same way. I think he’s a guy that I want to see run the ball in the first game and see where we’re at. We do have the luxury of having some depth at running back, so we got to get those guys the ball,” Stoops said.

Kentucky will be without three receivers for various reasons Saturday, but offensive coordinator Neal Brown still plans to use sets with four receivers. However, don’t look for Williams to be playing outside — at least not this early in the season.

“Probably won’t do that early. We’re just starting to introduce some of that stuff as he gets more comfortable with the true running back,” Brown said. “I think you’ve got to be careful with those freshmen, putting too much on them.

“So will he be a guy later in his career, even maybe later this year, that we can put out in the slot and things? Yes, for sure. Right now, I think he’s got to get all the running back stuff down.”
