You can throw Mac McClung on the list of available transfers who have heard from John Calipari and his staff.

Pat Lawless listed Kentucky among the schools that have contacted McClung since McClung announced his transfer out of Texas Tech. Gonzaga, Texas, Georgia, Memphis, NC State, Minnesota and Florida are also in McClung’s call log, says Lawless. Adam Zagoria added Boston College to the fold in his report of McClung’s suitors.

Wherever McClung ends up, it will be the Virginia native’s third school in four seasons since he signed with Georgetown as a three-star prospect out of the 2018 high school class. This past season McClung started every game at Texas Tech, his one and only year in Lubbuck, with an average of 15.5 points per game. He announced his transfer four days ago, not long after Chris Beard bolted for Texas.

As for his fit with Kentucky, McClung isn’t the typical Calipari guard as he is a score-first point guard who loves the ball in his hands, a little too much at times. But he is also very good and can completely take over a game when he’s hot, so he is an option any team would take into serious consideration. Adding to his appeal to Big Blue Nation, he’s from just across the Cumberland Gap and spent Easter weekend on the Kentucky side, according to KSR’s own Ryan Lemond.
