This is quite a honor and should be commended for his hard work to be named Gatorade Track and field Kentucky athlete of the year award. He is a class young man as noted in the article.

Lafayette junior offensive lineman Landon Young has been named the Gatorade Kentucky Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

The 6-7, 265-pound Young, a four-star prospect, won the Class AAA shot put with a throw of 55 feet, 3.5 inches and threw the discus 169-5 to also take the state championship.

He was the 2013 USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships runner-up in both the shot and the discus

Young is such a versatile athlete that he also finished fourth at this year’s state wrestling meet in the 285-pound class.

Young shine off the field as well as he is a Future Farmers of America chapter officer and belongs to the Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also has volunteered as an assistant to an autistic child at his church.
