Before the President fires Dr Fauci, at least IMO. You can’t keep your job in this administration and keep contradicting the president.

I hope he can hold on until we are through the first firestorm of this pandemic. Trump may be able to control himself because of the potential political fallout. I have my doubts.

Before you say that’s ridiculous consider Kelly, Tillerson, Sessions etc.

It would not surprise me one damn bit, hc. Trump does senseless things for no other reason than he can...nothing else! This is what power-drunk narcissist do.

Nearly 75% of Americans (including republicans) believe Dr. Fauci, while just 36% believe Trump. Another reason to believe Trump will fire him.

Trump has bungled this whole pandemic response from the get go....and all he does is duck and blame, and blame, and blame....he's done it his entire life!

I'd sincerely like to know exactly how you think he has "bungled" the handling of this pandemic? He banned travel from China and the liberals called him Xenophobic and racist. Then after thinking (or having it explained to them) said he didn't do it soon enough. It makes no matter what he says or does. According to them, it is always wrong. In my opinion, you are no different.

Norm I don’t think you’re addressing the question to me but l’m among the 1/3 of of the American people (by the last poll I saw) who gives him a passing grade on the way he has handled this, I honestly don’t know what he could do differently.

What scares the bejesus out of me is watching his almost daily news briefing. I have no idea where he comes up with some of the things that come out of his mouth. He was not “being sarcastic” when he made the remark about injecting disinfectant into our bodies. Anyone who thinks otherwise should look at the clip.

I don’t know why everybody wants to treat the travel restrictions (not a ban) as “Mission Accomplished “.

The purpose of the “ban” was to buy time to prepare....

You don’t prepare by playing golf, holding political rallies, and calling the virus a “Hoax”.

You don’t prepare by blaming everybody you can think of...

You don’t prepare by declaring “I take no responsibility at all”

You don’t prepare by telling terrified Americans they are on their own

No sir, you don’t! You are the President of the United States of America! It’s past time to act like it!

No HC, I was not referring to you.

Okay MM, let me come at this from a little different angle: Let's say YOU were president of the USA. What would you do differently. Not "say", but "DO"?

By the way, ask Gavin Newsome and Cuomo how he did. Let's talk about what he DID do for a while. We don't just have to be negative all the time, do we?

Even with the benefit of hindsight it's impossible to say what I would have done. Knowing me, I probably would have screwed things up worse than Trump. But hindsight does reveal what Trump did, should have done, or not done.

You're right, we don't have to be negative all the time. So, let's do talk about what he DID do.

What do you have?

MM, just curious, I know a lot of left leaning folks blame Trump for calling it a hoax, making out like it wasn't a big deal, etc in reference to the Covid or Corona virus.

Would you rather him come out and say "5% of people who contract this pandemic will die, it's likely the end of America as we know it." Can you imagine the panic in the streets? Personally, I'd rather he paint a rosy picture about some little outbreak of a new virus, it's going to pass, we all just have to take some new measures. Yes, he underplays the seriousness of the situation, but it's better than instantly devolving the country into a martial law disaster zone.

Could Trump have handled it better? Absolutely. Are there other politicians who would have done better? I wouldn't put money on it.

Pointing out facts is not blaming....blaming is deflecting responsibility and accountability for those facts.

quote:

If it's the truth....yes! Because, actually, it is "the end of America as we know it"....at least for the foreseeable future!

quote:

That's what Trump did and that's why we are where we are. You mentioned yourself all the people you saw out frolicking around as if everything is just dandy.

This is what people do when they're told that Covid-19 is "some little outbreak" that's "going to pass"....that's why taking "some new measures" are largely ignored.

Sometimes fear is a good thing!

The more data we have, the more it is apparent that COVID-19 is about as fatal as one of the more aggressive flu viruses. Antibody tests in Germany and here now show that many, many people contracted the virus but never developed symptoms. All along, our numbers have been skewed because the denominator (the number of people infected) was far, far too small.

This virus is a little more contagious than most flu viruses, and roughly 0.5% of those who have contracted the disease die. Nobody who needed it has been unable to get a bed in the ICU, and nobody has been denied a ventilator. All those temporary hospitals set up to handle the 'surge' of patients remained almost completely empty, as did the Navy hospital ships off New York and Los Angeles. The 40,000 ventilators that New York was screaming about? Turns out at the peak, they needed 6,000. In other words, the whole damn thing has been overblown.

Yet, look at the devastation we are causing our nation. The cure IS worse than the disease. Far, far worse. And the democrats want to keep us in this state long enough to destroy the economy purely for political gain.

Yes, this. With the new antibody testing happening in NYC, we know approximately 20% of those residents have had it and now have developed antibodies to the virus. Now, I'm not saying it won't mutate much like the flu does, but the numbers in NYC are forcing the experts to adjust the mortality rates associated with covid. Best guess, last I saw, was about 0.5-0.6% lethal. So, 5 or 6 times as deadly as the flu. More transmissible, though, probably about 3x as contagious.

This is the worst part. We've effectively mortagaged our country for decades, if not permanently, because of this virus. Yes, the death toll will continue to climb and will likely get over 100,000 before this wave ends. The flu kills 50,000 each year! Yes, each death is a tragedy and it's very sad for the loved ones. It's not worth destroying my unborn grandchildrens financial independence for, though!

I hope that data proves out to be correct.

I guess that brings into question, did we overreact? If we had not implemented social distancing, shut downs etc would we have needed those ventilators, temporary hospitals etc? I don’t have those answers.

One thing for sure, if it does prove out to be an overreaction, I’m pretty sure I know who is going to be at fault. Trump is going to be blamed either way. He can’t win. While I dislike his character immensely, I get no joy from that.

MM since all you can post is anti trump things - some people can see big picture unlike other. Here's what I am mad about and the below posted response is right on!

I've heard friends and also mass media announcers say;
“I’m mad that our government didn’t act sooner.”
=================================

I’ve seen that on quite a few posts and on many news stations.
It's a thinly veiled accusation that Trump didn’t act quickly enough.

Well I’m mad too.

I’m mad that Pelosi and the U.S. House wasted close to 3 months pursuing an obviously futile impeachment of the President.
I’m mad that Pelosi sat on those very impeachment papers for 28 days before sending them on to the Senate.
I’m mad that the Senate was shut down for 21 days in January and early February dealing with Pelosi’s impeachment, thereby leaving Trump to deal with Covid alone, with no support from either the House or Senate.
I’m mad that the day the President closed travel to and from China, Chuck Schumer declared the action “racist”.
I’m mad that 28 days after the travel restriction, Nancy Pelosi, downplaying the severity of the virus, begged people to visit Chinatown in San Francisco, again playing the race card.
I’m mad that Pelosi swooped in at the last hour of the stimulus package, adding things that were pure politics and had nothing to do with the dire circumstances at hand.
I’m mad that the Obama administration didn’t replenish the National Medical stockpile of masks after the H1N1 virus scare.
I’m mad that there are top doctors and experts in many fields having to waste their time at daily press briefings just so the “media” can pester them with gotcha questions that they think might be their ticket to a Pulitzer.
I’m mad that Pelosi is now talking about an investigation into Trump’s handling of the Covid crisis. Every day, every turn, every word, every breath since before he was elected, President Trump has been attacked, mocked, accused and belittled by Pelosi and her gang.

(And don’t even get me started on the media.)

So there it is…… I’m mad as hell that our country is going through this and petty bickering from the left won’t even stop for people who are dying while our economy is imploding.

Hey Nancy, why don’t you man up and stand side by side with the President to work through this mess?
American citizens need to see "all" of Washington working together and your mob are infuriatingly absent.

I’m mad about that too .
She just deflects just like others!

That's right, but I'll take my chances when the mortality rate is <0.5% nationwide. Every time we take a breath it could be our last. Believe me, I've seen a lot of folks die when they thought they were perfectly healthy, and I've seen a lot of folks live who should have died.

I hope M&M never stops posting. Without him this section of the board will become very boring. It would just be someone starting a thread, and others following with “good post, preach on brother, amen etc. Of course there are exceptions to this. This board is made up of 95% of hard core conservatives. I hope it never becomes a requirement for postings and opinions.

I may not agree with him on a lot of posts but I find his posts interesting, thought provoking and heartfelt. I don’t remember him ever attacking an individual unless he has been provoked. His posts are generally backed by links or other information that are pertinent to the subject. IMO, They “may” be misguided at times but that’s because they are presented from a different political slant than mine.

I honestly don’t understand all the vitriol directed at him. I would gladly set down and have a beverage of choice with M&M. Of course he would have to buy.

Ed, since nobody we can call "friend" or even "acquaintance" is named "Donald Trump", might I suggest you take less personal offense when his actions are critiqued?

Let me remind you that half of the US population LOATHES Donald Trump, most of them far more than MM does. In my field (higher education), practically EVERYBODY detests him. I hear everything MM says here many times a day... often with sneers of contempt or visible signs of rage. I have learned to let it go.

MM is the sole remaining voice for that segment of the population, and he manages to keeps his cool despite being completely outnumbered here.

I have to take my hat off to MM. I often find myself in his circumstance -- being the only conservative among FLAMING leftists -- and I have to bite my tongue frequently. I don't DARE to point out the "pros" of Trump, nor can I voice any strong conservative opinion without getting the whole crowd so riled up that they all attack me at once. Fortunately, we mostly treat MM with respect here; good thing he doesn't get the treatment I receive!

So, let's all remain respectful and friendly. Donald Trump is the most polarizing president in my lifetime (yes, even more than Obama), and the ONLY way we can start to heal the huge gulf that separates Americans politically is to engage in respectful conversation.

No need to censure anyone this time. I like everybody on this forum, and would love to get together one day. Sometimes politics draws out the worst of us. But I like to believe that the Republican party and conservatism is built upon ideas, not emotions. Let's all behave that way.

Thanks hc and Tip for the kind words.

Listen guys, I know my views are not, let's say, enthusiastically embraced on this board...I've been a member for almost 20 yrs and nothing has changed...not one person's opinion has changed one Iota....actually, we've gotten more polarized.

We are a deeply divided nation...we can't unify long enough to fight off the biggest threat to our country in my lifetime for fighting each other...really disturbing! If not for this we would be "ahead of the curve" with COVID long ago...I'm convinced of it! I don't know what it will take to turn us around. [Frown]

As far as Trump goes, I just do not accept this man as "a" president, even though he is "the" president.

Character is everything in a man, to me anyway. It lets you know what to expect from him...small things like truth, honor, empathy, trust and fidelity. Nobody is a faultless Boy Scout, but few are void of all...Donald Trump is one... unfortunately.

Does my disdain for the man cloud my judgement of the President? I'd be dishonest to say it didn't...I don't know how it could not. I can't help but feel that public service is a distant 2nd to self-service with Trump.

Ed, I have no hard feelings...I don't hold grudges...no longer that 15 minutes anyway. The issue has been addressed and I'm done with it...I got way more important, and far more serious things to worry about, as I'm sure you do too.

hc,

I would be honored to buy you a drink, sir!

Don't let that sir schit go to your head 'cause I'm just buying ONE drink...I know how you like to butter up and mooch! [Smile]
