After a strong showing at the Adidas 3SSB event in Birmingham this week, Reed Sheppard has finally scored a scholarship offer from the Kentucky Wildcats. He announced the news Friday evening.

John Calipari and his entire staff watched Sheppard during Thursday’s action, while Orlando Antigua watched the four-star recruit today. Antigua has been the primary coach in contact with Sheppard since recruiting restrictions with 2023 prospects were lifted in June.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Sheppard has burst onto the national recruiting scene over the last year after putting up huge numbers in his sophomore campaign. Along with being the son of former Kentucky stars Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, he’s already one of the biggest legacy recruits for Kentucky basketball ever.

Already ranked as high as 39th nationally by Rivals, it’s not crazy to think Sheppard could eventually reach five-star status if he keeps up his current pace. Rivals reporter Travis Graf offered up some strong praise for Sheppard during a Friday outing.

Glad to hear that news. I (my wife)think we need more Kentucky high school boys on our team.

My wife is a good thinker about basketball. She felt that the last years' team missed the enthusiasm they needed because of the limited number of fans because of the pandemic. She felt the Kentucky boys would have felt more excitement because of getting to play for UK. I hadn't even thought about that, but if you have played in Kentucky during your high school school years, you would be more excited to play for the Cats than if you played in another state. UK basketball dominates the news in Kentucky.

If he's half as good as his dad, the Cat's will have a great player.
