As the Kentucky Wildcats wait to see who will be staying or leaving this offseason, be it the roster or the coaching staff, one of the biggest decisions to be made is from senior guard Davion Mintz.

Normally, the biggest stay-go decisions involved potential NBA Draft picks deciding if they want to stay in Lexington for one more year. However, it appears no one who’s declared for the draft will return, as Brandon Boston, Terrence Clarke and Isaiah Jackson are all likely to remain in the draft.

Mintz, who is highly unlikely to hear his name called in the draft if he enters it, is more likely to play overseas if he departs. While playing another season of college basketball could be tempting in comparison, he did just wrap up his fifth season, so he may be ready to begin his post-college hoops life.

While it doesn’t appear a final decision has been reached, Mintz did just post a very interesting video on Instagram.

I’m not familiar with the song, but one of the first lyrics in it is “yeah, I’m back.”

Did Mintz purposefully include that to hint at what his final decision will be, or was it a mere coincidence?

If Mintz doesn’t return, Kentucky will be left with grad transfer Kellan Grady, a third-year Dontaie Allen, and incoming McDonald’s All-American Nolan Hickman to fill out the backcourt. Jacob Toppin also spent time at guard down the stretch, though he’s obviously more of a forward.

Kentucky has kicked the tires on a number of transfers and remain interested in high school recruit TyTy Washington. There’s also been recent buzz Iowa transfer CJ Fredrick could eventually become a Wildcat.

Whatever happens, here’s to hoping Mintz makes the best possible decision for him and his family.
