Oscar Tshiebwe said on Wednesday that he’s finally where he wants to be. The 6-foot-9, 260-pounder from the Democratic Republic of Congo transferred to Kentucky from West Virginia in January but had to sit out the spring semester because of NCAA transfer rules.

But he did his best to help the Wildcats in practice, providing a physical presence that was not on the 2020-21 roster. At West Virginia, Tshiebwe was one of the nation’s top freshmen bigs in 2019-20. He averaged 11.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while earning All-Big-12 second-team honors. He was also named to the All-Big-12 freshman team. Tshiebwe’s excellent freshman year made many people believe he could be one of the top players in the conference as a sophomore, but he averaged just 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds before entering the transfer portal.
