Gather around, it’s time to collectively overreact to a tweet from an Iona Gaels Basketball fan account.

Late Sunday night, Gael Nation Hoops, an account with only a couple hundred followers and no affiliation to Iona, tweeted, “Iona plans to play University of Kentucky next year.”

“Nothing is finalized until the contract is signed,” Gael Nation Hoops added in a follow-up tweet. “Don’t come for my head when we are playing Bucknell instead.”

No one is coming for Gael Nation Hoops’ head, but Gael Nation Hoops has people coming to its Twitter feed with the unsubstantiated rumor. Pitino versus Calipari? You have our attention, accurate or not. Now fans on both sides are dreaming of Iona and Kentucky playing in New York (or would Rick come back to Lexington????) in 2021-22.

It’d be a good time to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of Pitino’s 1996 title with Kentucky too.
