Now we should have a bit more hope. Camp Cal has begun! That means unlimited (by NCAA regs) time with players.

What can we expect?

(1) Tired players. 2-a-days and even 3-a-days will be added to regular conditioning and individual drills.

(2) Gradual, but spotty improvement over the course of the next six weeks.

(3) Sometime in late January, we should see what appears to be a different team. One that can finally make us happy to watch!

That would be a welcome change for this old man. I was getting so upset, that I was considering sitting out for a while.

Norm, I am another old upset man. My children installed a large screen tv (72")for my wife and me and watching a game is just like being there, except for the atmosphere. I have hopes that this group of players will develop into a team that can move the ball and get some open shots.

Clydeh,

For this season, it is BETTER than being there. Only 3,000 fans at home games, spread out in that cavernous arena... not at all like it should be.

Just like the five football games I was at. Sparsely filled stands.

I want the Covid vaccine to come available soon so that many more fans can come to the games. I am not able to come, but I would like the stands to be full and I believe that would be an encouragement to the young players.

I remember when I lived and breathed for UK basketball. I would miss weddings if a game was on, and I would watch at my home with no visitors. Friends knew not to call my house during a game. But currently, I have lost almost all enthusiasm for UK basketball. Regular season games mean nothing anymore. There are no good home games and they no longer make an annual appearance in Cincinnati (I think that died during Tubby's tenure). It's hard to get excited and pick a favorite player because he'll most likely be gone the next season. Heck, even last game I had to look up jersey numbers during the game to know who was who. It's just not that fun anymore.

It seems like the most important thing to these players nowadays is their hairdo.

The hairdos! Who started that mess anyway? Anybody know?

I think a lot of that stuff, Hairdoo, Tatoo and most of that other stuff started making a big move with the rap scene, didn't it?

Paulcat,
I agree. I do not know the names of the starting five. Hopefully, as the season goes on I will learn all their names. It is certainly not like it used to be.

I was on vacation in South Carolina (Myrtle Beach) when the football CATS last played and beat Alabama!
If any of you have ever been to Myrtle, does the bar McAdoo's ring a bell? I took my wife's uncle down to the bar for a drink to celebrate after the win!
I was also on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, (my only time in that town) when KY played LSU, I believe it was when Travis Ford was with the Cats. I sat in the hotel room and watched the Cats play before I would go out on the town with my wife! I have my priorities!

There was a time that I wouldn't miss a football or basketball game. Now if I'm home and it's on I'll watch, but if I'm not oh well.

I only recorded the Richmond game and never watched it.

Me too - I turned on the past cpl games, watched 3/4 mins, knew they were going to get beat, turned them off!

For the 1st time ever, havent even made an attempt to learn the roster. Getting old and not the same anymore with a squad of people who wont be around more than a yr.

Its not about KY its about "me" "me". Including the coach!

(I can tell you all you want to know about the Dampier/Riley teams however and the 78 NT and of course the 96 and 98 teams [Big Grin] )

Ditto. It is just tiresome to adjust to a whole new set of faces every year. We've been doing this for 12 years now.

Is it selfish of us fans to want Program over Players? Or to miss watching young men develop over 4 years instead of over 5 months? Are we wrong to prefer NCAA championships instead of NBA bragging rights?

Cal will never change. This is what he thinks is the path to success. The problem is he has hijacked the nation's best fanbase, most of whom do not care one whit about the NBA, into rooting for first-round picks instead of final four berths.

I honestly struggle to enjoy watching UK play basketball, and not just because the current edition is unpalatable. It is because every year, we must endure the same drama, as raw, young (often too young) players stumble and fumble their way through November and December, find their footing in late January, and then get our hopes up for "number 9", only to lose to a team of veterans. Every. Single. Year.

PC,

My thoughts exactly.
