With the start of the 2020-21 college basketball season just over a month away, the Kentucky Wildcats began practicing over the weekend, with five practices in three days, including a pair of two-a-days.

Head coach John Calipari took to Twitter to assess where his team is at after being forced to replace eight of his top nine scorers from last season's SEC regular season championship team.

"Competitive spirit, trying to create new habits. The old stuff's not going to work at this level. Creating good shots, playing with energy even when you feel like you're tired," Calipari said. "Our skill set is good, not where it needs to be. More consistent, too many missed layups, too many missed open shots. Fairly good with the ball. We're a pretty strong team for being all new. I am coaching 10 new guys, which means they're learning about each other, they're learning about me. How about, they're learning about themselves. But I am having an absolute ball."

The NCAA recently extended the recruiting dead period through Dec. 31, meaning no in-person contact between coaches and recruits for the rest of 2020. Calipari doesn't seem to mind. That has just allowed him to spend even more time with his team.
