With most of his players having been on campus since late June, Kentucky basketball head coach John Calipari lamented not being able to be on the court with his team.

That all changed Monday, which marked the beginning of the NCAA-approved, 8-week "summer access" period, which allows for up to eight hours per week of weight-training, conditioning and skill instruction with Calipari and the rest of the UK coaching staff.

The new-look Wildcats, which includes nine scholarship newcomers, got to work this week.

"Little extra bounce in my step the last two days because I've had a chance to work with our guys. Hasn’t been much — just individuals — but getting to see their faces and talk a little basketball has me smiling," Calipari tweeted Tuesday. "We’ve got a determined, dedicated and hard-working group. We’ve got a long ways to go obviously but I like this group."

Calipari is used to starting from scratch every year but the 2020-21 rebuild will be as daunting as any he's faced during his time in Lexington.
