Ashton Hagans challenging Rajon Rondo's school marks. After recording four more steals against Georgia, the reigning SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year is up to 39 on the season and is also knocking on the door of Rajon Rondo's single-season record of 87. Rondo collected 45 steals over his first 18 games as a freshman in 2004-05.

Rondo averaged 2.6 steals over 34 games. After 18 games, Hagans is currently sitting at 2.2 steals per game, which is part of the reason why Calipari thinks he's the premier point guard in the country.

"Ashton's getting better. I believe because of how he defends and rebounds, he's the best point guard in the country. That's what I believe," Calipari told ESPN's Marty Smith. "This kid can play every position, blow up pick and rolls, blow up dribble hand offs and offensively he's getting better. People say, 'Well, it doesn't shoot it well.' He shot it well today. He's getting better."

That article was dated back on January 22. Right now, Ashton has 58 steals for the season. If he gets 2 more steals he will tie his season total for last year.

He has to get 29 more steals to tie Rajon's record of 87. If we have 1 more regular season game, 3 SEC tourney games, and 6 NCAA games (hey, I am an optimist!), he would need to average 3 steals to break the record.

It shows just how good of a defensive player Rondo was for the Cats. He is pushing 15,000 steals in his NBA career.
