Former Wildcat Wenyen Gabriel hasn’t led a life without struggle.

Gabriel was born in North Sudan, he and his family fled the country to escape the Second Sudanese Civil War, which lasted from 1983 to 2005. His family initially fled to Cairo, Egypt to reside in a refugee camp. Three years later, they found their way to New Hampshire, and the rest is history.

Gabriel sat down with the Sacramento Kings to talk about his childhood and how it’s shaped him into the man and player he is today. UK fans know how hard of a worker he is and how much he’s grew during his time with the Wildcats, but they may not know all of his past.

If you needed another reason to love Gabriel, here is your chance to fall back in love with the former Wildcat as he tells his story:

The Cats were lucky to have Wenyen Gabriel even if it was only for a season. Wish him well in the NBA.
