Kentucky coach John Calipari's mantra over the past several seasons has centered around playing and recruiting to the "positionless" style of basketball employed in the NBA, one that is moving away from the traditional positional archetypes and more toward versatility.

In short, players who can both play and defend multiple positions.

Entering his 11th season at the helm in Lexington, this group of Wildcats may be his most positionless yet.

"This is what I enjoy most - having a great workout with a group of players who wanted this culture, wanted to be challenged, wanted to be made uncomfortable. They all have big dreams and aspirations and wanted to be in an environment with other good players," Calipari tweeted Sunday after working out with his team with former Wildcat Julius Randle in town. "This is truly a positionless team with length. We’re only just beginning this journey and I’m liking what I’m seeing."

When Cal says he likes his team you can take it to the bank we will have a good season.

I count the NIT season as a bad season. Hard to characterize as merely "less good".

When the NIT started playing back in 1939 it was considered the most prestigious post-season showcase for college basketball but that changed over time.
