Former Kentucky forward Alex Poythress has agreed to a two way contract with the Atlanta Hawks according to ESPN's Chris Haynes.

The 24 year old, originally from Savannah, Georgia, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in the 2016 NBA Draft. He spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Indiana Pacers. He also also spent a portion of his professional basketball career with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, which are the NBA G League affiliate of the Pacers. He has appeared in a total of 31 NBA games with one start. The forward has averaged 8.4 minutes per game during his NBA career.

During the summer basketball league in Las Vegas, Poythress played with the Pacers averaging 12 points per game in those opportunities.

We had a summer intern in our church office a few years ago who had a few classes with Alex. She said he was absolutely one of the most polite, nicest, kindest people she had ever known.

He was a quiet, unassuming person but not at all shy. The kind of person who would give you the "shirt off his back" of you needed it. He will be a success at any thing he undertakes in the future. I wish him nothing but the best.

Poy was a academic all-american while at Kentucky joining players like Louie Dampier, Larry Conley, Dan Issel, Mike Pratt and Kyle Macy became just the 15th player in program history to amass more than 800 points, 500 rebounds and 70 blocks in his career.

Poy was my all time favorite favorite Cat, his demeanor and the fortitude to put his education first was special. Something i didn't know about Poy was that He was offered a scholarship by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski while competing at an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) event. This was considered to be against the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) recruiting rules and regulations.
