Washington had been sidelined while recovering from finger surgery. Now that he is back, UK has all 10 scholarship players able to practice.

Reid Travis was cleared last week to begin practicing following his transfer. Having those two on the court together is something John Calipari has been wanting to see.

“I’m anxious when PJ and he come back together where they’re either in the same group or they’re going against each other what that looks like. It’ll be interesting,” Calipari told KSR last week.

As a freshman from Findley Prep, Washington averaged 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his freshman season at UK. He led the team in total rebounds with 211 boards, plus he chipped in 31 blocks.

Washington brought a lot of intensity, strength and inside presence this year, and he has the potential to make a monster jump as a college sophomore. He’ll now look to reach that level in a second year under Calipari and Kenny Payne, who’ve been one of the best coaching duos at developing big men in college hoops.

With Washington out, EJ Montgomery has been getting more run in practice and making a big impression with it. It will be interesting to see how Calipari handles the rotation Montgomery, Travis and Washington, and if he’ll find a way to play all three at once for spurts.
