Before the week is out, Kentucky point guard recruit Quade Green will celebrate his 19th birthday. In most cultures, he still would be a young man after hitting this particular milestone. Not so in Kentucky basketball.

When the 2017-18 basketball season begins, Green will be among the oldest players expected to fill the Wildcats’ rotation. Not kidding here.

“This will be the youngest, least experienced team I’ve coached,” John Calipari told Sporting News.

On the day the Wildcats play their first game in November, they figure to be playing two 18-year-olds (Knox and forward Jarred Vanderbilt), at least four 19-year-olds (forward P.J. Washington, guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jemarl Baker and Green), one 20-year-old (forward Wenyen Gabriel) and one 19-year-old just a few days short of his 20th birthday (center Nick Richards). They could have two other 19-year-olds, as well, if center Mohamed Bamba commits to the Wildcats over Duke and Texas and if guard Hamidou Diallo withdraws from the NBA draft.

It’s a roster loaded with 5-star propsects, but essentially no one who could comfortably be called a veteran.
