Marques Bolden has still no set a date for an announcement, nor given any indication that he has actually decided where to attend college in the fall.

If you recall, Marcus Lee was officially invited to the NBA Combine which takes place May 11-15. He go through the Combine and will be allowed to work out for teams as well. He has until May 25th to remove his name and return to Kentucky.

For a lot of people, this seems to them to be what is keeping Bolden from deciding and announcing where he wants to go. Duke has, and has had, a scholarship available for him, leading many to believe if he wanted to go to Duke, he would’ve already committed.

If Lee opts to remain in the NBA Draft, that’s one less person to compete against for playing time at Kentucky.

It still looks to be at least a week or two at the earliest until there will be any closure one way or the other. Marcus Lee could go through the combine and be told he will be a second round pick (non-guaranteed contract) or undrafted at all and he decides to return to school. He could also be invited to workouts with individual teams, one of which could tell him they would take him in the first round if he’s available.

I believe he will not sign a letter with anyone. He will decide after May when school is out.

It is probably hard to say no to Coach K when he is promising Duke boosters will take care of you for life if you play for him, regardless of your status. He truly is a snake in the grass.

If Marcus Lee is the issue, I can't believe Bolden is worry about him when he is a much better of a player. I said several times in other discussions that the only thing Lee can do are alley-oop dunks. He also gets in foul trouble too.

My sentiments exactly Blue Hoot. I don't see Lee making an NBA roster myself but don't feel Lee's status should have any bearing on whether Bolden goes to UK or not.

I do think Marcus Lee is the issue, but not in that way. I don't think Bolden is worried about playing behind Lee, but rather the scholarship, roster availability issue. Bolden specifically asked both programs a while back where the opening in the roster was going to come from. It appears Bolden is genuinely concerned about a player being run off.

Thats another reason things look promising for UK. pUKe has already run a player off (Thornton), giving them an available scholarship slot and if Bolden wanted them as his first choice he could have chosen them by now.

I'm getting to the point that I don't give a rat's anus where he goes. These prima donnas make my rear end tired. If you're coming, do it. Otherwise, forget it and don't string us out.

I have to agree with your logic BBR. But I would think Cal has told him he wouldn't run someone off just to make room for him. The only time Cal ran anyone off was the first year when he had to clear some of Billy's wasted scholarship people off. We can find other ways to get an in state player another way to pay for his school. I still think Bolden will not go the LOI route. School may be out before he decides where he is going to go and just enroll there.

Norm says - "I'm getting to the point that I don't give a rat's anus where he goes. These prima donnas make my rear end tired. If you're coming, do it. Otherwise, forget it and don't string us out."

Could not agree more! He ain't as big as the UK program. Hell, he may not even be as big as the Duke program.

From Cal's press conference today via KSR:

quote:

John Calipari isn’t allowed to mention the one remaining target in the 2016 class by name, of course, but if you read between the lines, he had plenty to say to Marques Bolden in today’s press conference. When asked, Calipari denied saying he wanted to add one big man to his recruiting class, telling reporters that he’s not going to pressure a player into coming here, because to succeed at Kentucky, you have to really, really want to play at Kentucky. “No, I didn’t say that. Here’s what I would say. We don’t try to bully, we don’t try to intimidate, we’re not trying to overwhelm people with calls. We’re not trying to bring all our recruits together in a conference text to try to tell the kid — we don’t tell our kids. We don’t do that.” “If a kid wants to come and walk on our campus in September, I’m alright with that. I don’t really care. The reason is to come here, you have to be sure this is what you want or you should not come here. This thing is on. This is not for funsies here. My thing is whatever happens, happens. However this stuff plays out for anybody, obviously, that’s the extent of what I can say.” Not to parse Cal’s every word, but that doesn’t sound very confident to me. But, what happens happens, right?
quote:

I do not think Bolden will end up at UK and like Norm and Handy, it is a closed topic for me. We have a lot of talent coming in without him.

Kentucky has enough pieces to be great without him. They could be even better with him. Either way, it will be a fun season to watch.

I don't know much about this new class coming in. But, from what I have read, they will be very athletic and they could be a great pressing and fast break team. Those types of teams can get a 15 point run in the blink of an aye and put teams away.
