When George Karl was on the hot seat last summer, the Kings reportedly looked into hiring Kentucky coach John Calipari.

A few months later, Karl’s job is still insecure, and Calipari still might still be the target.

Ric Bucher of Bleacher:

“The belief still is it’s a matter of when, not if, Karl will be removed as the head coach.

If that should happen during this season, the short-term answers are, according to owner Vivek Ranadivé – or sources say – he would like to move Nancy Lieberman into the head-coaching position, making a big splash by having the first female head coach in NBA history. Vlade Divac, the GM is more inclined to fill with Corliss Williamson for the remainder of the season.

But Ranadivé’s biggest dream is to have Kentucky coach John Calipari come out and coach this roster full of Kentucky players.”

“The belief is that Ranadive will take another run after Calipari plans to make an offer that Calipari simply cannot refuse.”

For what it’s worth, Bucher first reported Ranadivé was targeting Michael Malone as coach in 2013. The Kings hired Malone that year, their only offseason coaching hire under Ranadivé’s watch.

Calipari would be a fantastic hire, because all the top high school players would follow him to Sacramento. The Kings would become infused with and talent, creating one of the best – what? That’s not how it works?

That owner sounds like a wacko to me, hiring Nancy Liberman to coach a professional men's team, totally ridiculous. Cal has it made, is making more money at UK than coaches make in the NBA, no reason he would ever consider working for a pro team with a nut case owner.

Whomever wrote that article is not very knowledgable about the NBA and how their draft works. Like ever high school player would want to play for Sacramento, totally ridiculous logic.

Here is my take. Coach Cal would not have recruited 2016 as hard as he has, if he was ever planning on leaving. He has set up a possible monster in 2016, especially depending on who stays.

The day Coach Cal decides to leave or even thinks about it, we will get our first hint of it on the recruiting trail. He won't be out there chasing recruits as hard and will be looking to transition to the NBA. Therefore he will strike out all year long, coincidentally leading to a year of little to no recruits.

I doubt very seriously that Cal would take the job whatever the offer would be. Just the thought of coaching two personalities like Cuz and Rondo would enough to drive a coach to the loony bin.

If Cal thinks he can find a better job than the one he has it isn't going to be in Sacramento for sure or another place for that matter. I hope this is his last job and when he does retire he has 3 or more NCAA championships.

WHOUK, you make an outstanding point, Cal has recruited much too hard to put next year's class together to have any intention of ever leaving UK, especially right now.
