Jamal Murray was not named to the team that will represent Canada at the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for next year’s Olympics, freeing him up to enroll at UK for the first day of classes next week.

Murray – a five-star combo guard – helped lead Canada to a silver medal in the Pan Am Games earlier this month and worked out with the national team at its training camp this week.

The qualifying tournament runs through Sept. 12 in Mexico, and UK’s fall semester begins Wednesday. Murray could have missed several days of classes had he played with Team Canada.

DraftExpress.com projects Murray as the No. 6 overall pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
