Murray ended up scoring 20 points for team Canada.

University of Kentucky signee Jamal Murray scored 20 points Wednesday night to help lead Canada to an 88-83 come-from-behind victory over Argentina in the preliminary round of the Pan American Games men's basketball tournament in Toronto.

Canada, which beat the Dominican Republic on Tuesday night, improved to 2-0 in the tournament. The Canadians close group play Thursday against Mexico at 6 p.m.

Murray, playing point guard, made six of 15 field-goal attempts in 27 minutes of action Wednesday. He made four of seven three-point attempts and all four of his free throws.

Murray also contributed two rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot. He committed three turnovers.

If this is going to be his normal playing mode Cal won't be able to keep him out of the starting lineup. I'm not sure who will sit but he can definitely be a starter. This may be another bad year for Lee. If we had picked up another big man Cal could have had another 10 man platoon squad. He is going to have a tough time finding playing time for all the guards again. We will be playing a small team for a lot of this season.

Bama, he will start and the good thing is he can play 3 positions. In the game yesterday he played the point, with his size could play the 2 for sure and the 3 if needed.

Ullis, Murray, and Briscoe in the backcourt, with Poythress and Skal in the paint will be a formidable team. I mean, a national championship caliber team.

Lee and Willis will rotate in the frontcourt as necessary, and Hawkins and Matthews will provide solid depth in the backcourt.

Honestly, this team may be better than last year's, simply based upon the embarrassment of riches we have in the guard positions. Big men are vital, but guards determine your success or failure, especially in the NCAAs. I can't wait.

It's going to be a fun year and would bet we will see many 3's being made. Since Cal has been here we have never shot under 33% on our 3's and only one year where we shot less than 200 3's.

Murray now has 45 points in 3 games and looks to be a very special talent.

It's amazing how with one signing a team can go from good to great. It proves again that you don't necessarily have to sign a bunch of top 10 recruits to make a great team. The best kids are going to make the NBA no matter who they sign with. But they may not enjoy a final four if they don't sign with UK. [Big Grin]
