Who says Kentucky's basketball team doesn't pay attention to academics?

The 2015 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on the grades from the 2014 Spring, Summer and Fall terms. Among other qualifications, a student-athlete must have a grade-point average of 3.00 or above for the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above in order to make the honor roll, in addition to being a sophomore or higher in academic standing.

Here is a list of Kentucky's honorees, along with each student-athlete's sport and major:

E.J. Floreal – M Basketball – Communication

Dominique Hawkins – M Basketball – Communication

Tod Lanter – M Basketball – Marketing

Marcus Lee – M Basketball – Undergraduate Studies

Brian Long – M Basketball – Communication

Sam Malone – M Basketball – Marketing

Alex Poythress – M Basketball – Marketing

Derek Willis – M Basketball – Undergraduate Studies

According to Bob Knight, these kids don't go to class!

Did Knight say that about these specific players or is that a general statement?

Knight said that the five starters (who all were drafted by the NBA that year) never went to class in the spring semester.

He was, and remains, a complete dick head. All of them completed their requirements and passed their courses.

Now, I always worry about the "General Studies" major. I took a look at that when I was struggling with my own decision... you basically sit down with an adviser and plot out a series of courses that you are interested in. There should be some subject or theme that ties it all together, and then you write a thesis descibing how it all 'fits'. While it can be a legitimate way to study something that defies categorization, it is almost designed to be an easy path through college. I wish that Cal would insist that all players declare a legitimate major.

I think " complete dick head" sums it up nicely!

That made me blush. [Wink]

I agree with the previous two statements!

It didn't make me blush, and I read it to my wife and my daughter. They both thought it was funny.

I concur, I was never a Knight fan and he adds exactly nothing to a basketball broadcast. He appears to be half asleep when he is on air during games. I don't think I saw him do a game this past season, he was apparently demoted from doing major ESPN games. I have always considered him one of the most obnoxious people ever in the public spotlight.

Unless you watched many Big XII games you probably didn't see him at all!

One good thing is that ESPN did not re-new Knights contract. His last game was the NIT final for ESPN.

Knight did apologize to Kentucky for his remarks about one year players not going to classes. I think however his apology was because if he didn't apologize ESPN would have fired him.
