Prepare yourself, Hyatt bar, Bill Raftery is rolling into town. That’s right, the best announcer in college basketball is coming to Lexington to call the Kentucky/Arkansas game with Kevin Harlan. You know it’s big when they break out Raftery.

Get used to seeing Raftery, because he’ll also call this year’s Final Four alongside Jim Nantz and Grant Hill. Last year, Jim Nantz, Greg Anthony and Steve Kerr had the honors, but Raftery’s been calling Final Four games for years on the radio. Here are his notes from last year’s Final Four in Dallas:

Bill Raftery is far from being the “greatest announcer in college basketball.”I think he is in the running for the worst. I find his manic-depressive style extremely irritating. His intermittent unintelligible outbursts may play in the Big East, but not with me.

I agree 100%

At least we don't have to worry about Billy pACCker anymore........ HE drove me nuts.. I'm a little more interested in who the REFS are?

I agree the refs are far more important than the announcers.

I only listen to the announcers when I choose too. Most of the time, NOW, I choose not too!

THE REFS ARE NOT IMPORTANT TO ME, YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT YOURSELF IN A POSTION TO LET THE REFS DECIDE THE GAME.

Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 02-27-2015, 08:22 PM:

LET VERN LUNDQUIST CALL THE GAME.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-27-2015, 08:34 PM:

Let Dickie V call it!

Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 02-27-2015, 09:24 PM:

VERN AND DICKIE. ESPN IS SCREWING DICKIE V. IMO

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-27-2015, 09:26 PM:

Yeah they are slowly replacing him.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 12:44 AM:

I don't see Vitale doing games much longer.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 12:44 AM:

ESPN needs some new young blood to do their games.

Posted by CatFanInYankeeville (Member # 2025) on 02-28-2015, 04:27 AM:

I'd rather it be Packer, Vitale, even Raftery, as opposed to any woman calling the game.

Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 02-28-2015, 05:08 AM:

THEY WONT NEVER FIND ANYONE WITH ANYMORE HEART AND PASSION FOR THE GAME THAN DICKIE V. THEY JUST WONT.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 09:18 AM:

I guess ESPN will just have to wait until more dUKe players graduate. [Wink]

GB, Dickie V is and was special and he has more passion about the game of basketball than anyone.

It's that Italian in him!

Guess I am in the minority here but I believe Bill Raftery is and has been one of the top national level college basketball analyst for many, many years.

"Shoulder … shake … a little lingerie."

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 12:01 PM:

Raftery is getting up there though and not as sharp as he once was!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 02:40 PM:

I think Rafferty is still awfully smart and knows his basketball.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 02:41 PM:

I think Jersey nailed it.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 02:55 PM:

Jay Bilas is a pretty smart announcer too!

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 03:04 PM:

How about Clark Kellogg?

Posted by boomdaddy (Member # 2644) on 02-28-2015, 03:10 PM:

I like Rafftery, Bilas, and Kellogg. Dickie V can get on my nerves at times, but he truly loves the game.

Oneof the few that I really hated was Billy "ACC" Packer.

I also think that former IU coach should be chained to a chair and forced to watch a video of himself throwing the chair across the court over and over again. Can't remember his name, but he was the one who refused to call "Kentucky" by its name for a couple of weeks one season.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 03:13 PM:

Yeah, he needs to disappear into oblivion

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:29 PM:

Many don't but I like Bilas.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:30 PM:

Kellog isn't my favorite but some think he is great.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:30 PM:

I think Rafferty will do a good job.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:31 PM:

They have their A team doing the game that's for sure.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 03:33 PM:

I don't even know anything about the other guy calling the game with Rafferty!

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 03:34 PM:

Is there an A team out there these days? Like Packer and Mussberger used to be?

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:37 PM:

I guess that would be up to the individual.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:39 PM:

There have been some good announcers through the years but Cawood was the best!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:40 PM:

Cawood will never be replaced.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 03:47 PM:

Cawood was the Best, but Tom does the best he can do, and he loves KY ball!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:52 PM:

Tom is great, no doubt about it.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-28-2015, 03:54 PM:

It's hard to pick the best but it had to be Cawood

Posted by boomdaddy (Member # 2644) on 02-28-2015, 05:08 PM:

The guy with Raftsry sounds a lot like Marv Albert.

Posted by boomdaddy (Member # 2644) on 02-28-2015, 05:46 PM:

Raftery's best sound byte regarding Kentucky: they make you take shots that haven't taken since high school

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 07:26 PM:

So how was the announcing today?

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-28-2015, 07:27 PM:

I haven't heard a TV announcer live since I got my radio! [Big Grin]

Posted by boomdaddy (Member # 2644) on 02-28-2015, 08:53 PM:

Are you able to cinc it with the game action? I wouldn't want to listen to the radio, and hear about the shot before it leaves the players hands on the tv

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-01-2015, 10:04 AM:

It works perfectly, Boom.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-01-2015, 02:08 PM:

I'm able to sync in right at the tip of the game. Yesterday it was about a 4 second delay. Not terrible. You can actually sync it behind the TV if you choose. I put it really close to LIVE ACTION!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-01-2015, 10:21 PM:

We did make them take a number of shots coach Anderson didn't want them to take.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-01-2015, 10:23 PM:

I would bet coach Anderson will have few things to say to his team after reviewing the film of the game.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-01-2015, 10:24 PM:

I would bet if we play them in the SEC tournament we will win but it won't be as easy as it was On Saturday.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-02-2015, 04:42 AM:

Yeah maybe 12 points next time

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 12:44 PM:

It will more than likely will be closer if we play them again. It isn't a given that we play them however.

I like all the aforementioned Packer included. Kellogg, and Lundquist are my two favorites. I met and talked to Vern a few times at the stadium after the Fla- Ga games, he is one heck of a nice guy. His wife travles with him alot, cute couple...

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:24 PM:

rr, Lundquist must be getting up in age, he has being doing games for years.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:25 PM:

He has to be in his 70's.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:28 PM:

He was great a announcer doing a lot of golf tournaments in the past.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:34 PM:

We have 6 players 6'8" and above which includes two 7 footers!

Vern will be 75 on July 17th

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-02-2015, 08:56 PM:

Now the question raises, ARE YOU, CMD, GETTING UP IN AGE? [Wink] J/K

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:57 PM:

I figured he was over 70.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-02-2015, 08:58 PM:

You are about Vern's age, aren't you CMD?

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 08:58 PM:

MH, I'm over the hill and going down the back-side!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-02-2015, 09:01 PM:

It sounds like we are the same age, no he is actually a month older than I am. [Smile]

I love syncing my tv to my radio, it's the best way to go, but I just watched the game again on dvr and I think Rafferty did a really good job.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 03-02-2015, 09:48 PM:

You know, I did exactly the same thing this evening, I also enjoyed the broadcast. They stayed with the game and didn't stray much to other players or team! It was a good broadcast!
