February 23rd, 2011: Arkansas 77, Kentucky 76 (ot)
January 17th, 2012: Kentucky 86, Arkansas 63
March 2nd, 2013: Arkansas 73, Kentucky 60
January 14th, 2014: Arkansas 87, Kentucky 85 (ot)
February 27th, 2014: Arkansas 71, Kentucky 67 (ot)

That represents 4 wins in the last 5 meetings between Arkansas and Kentucky. And while 3 of the games were in overtime, so the rivalry seems closely contested, the fact that the Hogs have won 4 of the last 5 games should not go unnoticed. In fact, it is quite historic in SEC history for UK. In fact, in the modern era (1960’s and beyond) of Kentucky basketball, only 5 SEC schools have ever beaten UK in 4 of 5 games, comprising a total of 10 instances. And three of those instances were during the probation years of 1988-90.

Alabama (1989-91)
Florida (2013-14)
Florida (2005-08, 7 straight losses)
Florida (1987-89)
LSU (1979-80)
Tennessee (1979-80)
Tennessee (1975-77)
Vanderbilt (2006-08)
Vanderbilt (1988-90)
Vanderbilt (1963-65)

To me, that seems like an incredible stat. In the hundreds and hundreds of conference games played, including many against top level opponents, Kentucky just doesn’t really do losing streaks. Even during the national championship years of Arkansas in the 1990’s and the Final Four years of LSU in the 1980’s, Kentucky never lost 4 of 5 to those teams. To be honest, the Arkansas streak might be the most impressive of these streaks because it comes during a top era of Kentucky basketball. The Florida streak of the 2000’s came during the Tubby collapse. Like I said, three of them came during probation. Arkansas has done all of this against Calipari teams, including twice last year.

I would think if Arkansas gets the win on Saturday, it will be time to admit that Mike Anderson might just have Calipari’s number. It’s hard to say that about any coach, but you have to get that man some credit. And to be honest, he has beaten Calipari and UK with worse teams. Now while I feel very confident that UK will win on Saturday and break this streak, it’s just interesting that Arkansas, a team that has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2008, would hold such a streak over Kentucky. It’s probably the most unexplainable of the group above. Saturday will be an interesting moment in that rivalry and in the history of UK basketball.

That is something but don't think Anderson can pull this one off, especially with the McDonald All-Americans we have plus playing in Rupp in front of 24,000 fans.

It's a clean slate and the past can't help or hurt us!

That's for sure, unless the past reminds those like Willie what can happen if you don't play the entire game!

Coach knows Anderson's style of play by now and would bet we will be ready to play from the opening tip. He may have had trouble in the past with Arkansas but with this team it's going to be a different story. We have to much talent and athletisum this year.

That's a big number. It may be hard to get but we are at home in front of the big blue fans and that helps a lot.

In the interview post game with Qualls and Portis, they were asked "Do you want to play KYU again?" There was dead silence!

Can you blame them?

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 03-01-2015, 02:43 PM:

I do think we will play them again in the SEC tournament and it may not be so easy. If they get hot shooting their 3's they can score some points.
