His offense has not been good since the early part of the season.

Junior forward Wille Cauley-Stein is the first player in Kentucky basketball history with 200 or more blocked shots and 100 or more steals, something he accomplished Saturday in his 85th career game.

Kentucky coach John Calipari says the junior center is playing well but needs to do more offensively. He is averaging 9.1 points per game and shooting 56 percent from the field, but he’s taking only six shots per game. He has 35 blocked shots and a team-high 32 steals and averages a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game.

“He’s really – he’s like having a sixth defender out there. And our pick and roll defense is really good based on the fact that we can switch with him. Our bigs are getting better. Karl (-Anthony Towns) and Dakari (Johnson) —Dakari’s even better than Karl. Trying to get Marcus Lee up to where Willie is, which is hard because he’s unusual,” said Calipari.

Calipari said he would like to see more offensive rebounding from Cauley-Stein along with other things.

“Catching it three or four feet from the goal, get fouled. Right now he’s made 85 percent of his last free throws, the last five, six games, whatever that is. So get fouled. Go in there and ball fake, get fouled. He’s working on a better base, being stronger,” Calipari said.

His free throw shooting has been a real surprise and it should show him what practice can do if you put your mind to it. He now has to work on his moves around the basket. If he can improve that like he did his free throw shooting he could go 1 or 2 in the draft. imo

Willie needs Willie to score more. It's one area of his game that needs more work!

Willie averages 9 points a game and plays 25 minutes a game. He leads us in rebounding with 6.7 boards a game.

His shooting percentage is a little over 57% which is the highest on the team but a lot of those are dunks.

As with most of our big guys, the majority of their scores are within 5 feet of the basket!

That is true very few of them get to far away from the basket although Kat has on occasion and is shooting 29% from the 3 point line.

Willie really does not have much of an offensive game other than the dunk and teams are keeping him away from that in the half court sets.

Hopefully we can get some lobes into him tonight and also get a few put-backs. He has sure improved his free throws and maybe it will carry over to his shooting around the basket too..

WCS is a much better player than we saw last night as did other Cats. The Scary part is we should be getting better or at least about the same but not not worse.
