If Ulis does get stronger it will give him a better chance to make it to the NBA.

Tyler Ulis won’t say that college basketball is easier for him today than it was a few months ago.

“The competition is getting better. They’re coming after us even more with the SEC play. It’s just a different style of ball,” said the freshman point guard. “We just learned that we have to fight all the time. Every game’s not going to be a blowout. They came ready to play. They shot some 3’s. We just have to be able to stick with the game plan.”

The 5-9 Ulis has been one of UK’s best 3-point shooters and a nifty floor leader on offense. But he’s also been disruptive on defense in most games with his quickness.

“You have to really just worry about pick-and-rolls and stuff, and getting over the picks (when you are guarding him),” UK sophomore point guard Andrew Harrison said.

He has been at his best in true road games. Against then No. 4 Louisville, he scored a career-high 14 points without a turnover. At Texas A&M, Ulis’ 3 – his only points in the game — with 86 seconds left helped seal a 70-64 win over the Aggies in UK’s SEC opener. At Alabama, the freshman finished with 11 points, going 3-of-4 from behind the line. Saturday at South Carolina, he had six points, six assists, three rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes.

Ulis said the UK coaches are “trying to work on my body” to get him in better shape by having him lift weights and do other things to get stronger.

Despite his size, Ulis normally puts his body into bigger offensive players, something he says he has always done.

“Being a smaller guard I have to pick them up full court to make them uncomfortable,” Ulis said. “Just move your feet and you try to guess where they’re going and stuff like that. You just try to play without your hands, just be quicker than them.”

Ulis admits the Southeastern Conference has “been tougher than what we expected” but says at times that has been due to UK not playing to the best of its ability. That could be a challenge Thursday night at Missouri since UK beat the Tigers by 39 points earlier this season.

It will be interesting tonight to see how Ulis handles playing a team a second time. I would bet he will have a good game and will get a number good assists to his big men.

I felt both Ulis and Booker played what was probably their worst game of the season against Missouri last night. They just did not seem to get in the flow of the game and created some really unusual turnovers for them, they rarely ever turn the ball over. The good thing about this team is the ability to win when key players have off games, that is why a deep bench like we have comes in handy in games like last night.

Neither booker or Ulis had very good games but I sure wouldn't stop there as Lyles going 1-5 seemed to stand around a lot especially in the second half. Kat with just 2 rebounds also looked passive. WCS going back to his old free throw shooting 0-4 and only getting up one shot and 3 rebounds which should "never" happen. Lee who only played 10 minutes but in that time he didn't have a board, no excuse for that. Their is plenty of blame to go around as even Cal wasn't on top of his game either as this team was not prepared and standing on the sidelines yelling and screaming isn't getting the job done. He shouldn't have to do that if he had done his job during the week and had them prepared to play and they obviously were not prepared. They looked afraid to make a play in fear of getting the hook instead of making the play and playing to their God given abilities. IMO
