It's a turnover fest today. They don't look like the same Cats today, and I don't mean that in a good way!

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:11 PM:

They must have 5 or 6 turnovers already

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:13 PM:

we definitely have more to's than fg's

Booker with a air ball

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:15 PM:

They don't look like they are in the game yet.

Ulis is quick

Lee is going to be huge this season.

The French team is tough. ouch

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:18 PM:

Aaron H with a couple of big three's in the game so far.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:20 PM:

Aaron has played awfully well in the previous games too.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:24 PM:

Pretty pass by Andy

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:27 PM:

Hopefully when we get Willie back it will cut out some of these easy buckets inside by our opponents.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:28 PM:

We look passive maybe the second group can pick it up.

Posted by Old Norm (Member # 1482) on 08-16-2014, 01:28 PM:

Well, they pulled out by 9 and I thought they were gonna take over. The French team came right back. Poythress has been a no-show so far.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:29 PM:

It as a pretty pass by Andrew awhile back.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:31 PM:

Towns is a heck of a passer.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:33 PM:

We sure can play well against zones..

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:35 PM:

Ulis is going to get a lot of minutes.

Posted by Old Norm (Member # 1482) on 08-16-2014, 01:38 PM:

Something wrong. Don't know if they are tired, over-confident or what. WAYYYY too many turnovers.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 01:38 PM:

This team just do not know how to score against zone defenses. It appears we do not have consistent outside shooting enough to not see a ton of zones. I am disappointed in all the uncontested lay ups we are giving this team, no defense at all.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 01:39 PM:

Booker just does not belong with this first unit in my opinion.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 01:42 PM:

Giving up a ton of layups today!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:44 PM:

Not a good first half and none of the Cats looking real good.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 01:45 PM:

No defense at all today, no blocking out and giving up far too many lay ups.

Posted by Old Norm (Member # 1482) on 08-16-2014, 01:47 PM:

Maybe going in at half time behind, will be a wake-up call for these kids. They looked mediocre at best in this first half. This should put a stop to some of that 40-0 crap I've been reading on other sites!

We looked lethargic but it could be good and make them realize that they have to play hard all the time.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 01:52 PM:

We shoot 56% and still losing. Our defense was not the same as what we have seen in previous games. I bet however we come out strong and turn thing around quickly.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 01:56 PM:

They shot 73 percent in the first half, absolutely no defense and most of their points were off uncontested lay ups. What has happened to our shot blockers, none have emerged so far on this exhibition tour. No real defense either.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 01:58 PM:

Not a lot of rebounds to get when your opponent is making three out of every four shots they are taking.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 02:01 PM:

I can't remember a team that shot 73% against us in a half. There shots were mostly uncontested lay-ups which is inexcusable.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 02:03 PM:

We are now 1-8 behind the 3 point line.

Posted by Old Norm (Member # 1482) on 08-16-2014, 02:08 PM:

Poor to NO defense.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 02:08 PM:

Probably not a bad thing to get a good challenge today. Don't want them over confident too early!

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 02:08 PM:

Booker for THREEEEEEE!

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 08-16-2014, 02:10 PM:

Coach is going to have a lot of film to show the kids after todays game!

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 02:12 PM:

This team's Achilles heel is outside shooting, they are not a good three point shooting team, remind me a little bit of Cal's first team at UK that lost to WVU. Lots of talent and athleticism but not a lot of good outside shooters. Where is the Alex Poythress we have seen the last four games today, he is a no show pretty much thus far and this team need him and what he is capable of bringing to the table.

Posted by Old Norm (Member # 1482) on 08-16-2014, 02:29 PM:

No blowout today!

Down to the wire.

The difference today is No Alex.

It's a good teaching tool and they will learn a lot win or lose.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 02:39 PM:

It's our defense that has surprised me.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 02:40 PM:

We will see how Ulis runs this team down the stretch.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 08-16-2014, 02:48 PM:

Ulis looks like a real keeper.

Posted by SCWC (Member # 2464) on 08-16-2014, 02:55 PM:

I can see Ulis getting a lot of minutes with this team. Aaron can play the three on offense and has more size and experience than Booker. They have to learn a lot of fundamentals, like boxing out, not getting taken off the dribble etc. No shot blocking today at all, none during this trip thus far and that is something we are really going to need.

You would never pick him out as being such a good, solid defensive player but he is. He is a bull dog that is going to cause a lot of turn overs this season.

Its hard to play 6 games out of 8 days, and I knew this pro team would adjust to the first game, the twins fall down when they drive to bucket and that allows teams to run out, we have the exact same problem as last year when it comes to defense. too many run outs Poythress was a no show today, hurt us, but I think we are getting a little burnt out, 4 games would have been better. I like the way willis plays good basketball IQ, wouldn't surprise me any if we lose tomorrow. but this team will be fine we may have to use ulis a lot this year to stay back and stop the run outs.

cmd u gave ulis the bull dog name and it fits him well.

Did they play sloppy? Yeah, but I think the French team had a lot to do with it. I give them a lot of credit for the adjustments they made since Monday. They took away the lob, they blocked out on every possession and took away UK's offensive rebounding advantage, they applied more on-ball defensive pressure, and they put UK in a lot of high ball screen action to take advantage of the bigs.

UK played much better defense the second half IMO.

They are the odds on favorite to win it all. So what if they look a little unpolished in "exhibition" games. I think some may have too high a standard for preseason. Most teams don't even get to practice at this time (at least officially).

Posted by Green-Bean (Member # 13551) on 08-16-2014, 09:10 PM:

Boom I would venture to bet that another team in the country would be 5 and 0 against these teams. and we have a chance to go 6 and o. no other team out there would do that right now.

I believe Cal's last championship team benefited from the NBA owners lock out of the players, which enabled the young freshmen to have tough competition before the season started.

I look at this in the same way. I could care less if they go undefeated in these games or look sloppy.

It is fun to watch the new guys and Derek Willis, who did not get much floor time last season.

Tyler Ulis is the kid I wanted to see most, just to see if he is the real deal. He sure is. There are even some exuberant fans who think he should start, which is crazy. But, he is a piece of the puzzle that makes this team the favorite at the end of the season.

Cal has the luxury to sub 5 at a time, like a hockey team. He can run teams out of the gym in the second half and if he gets crappy refs who call a ton of fouls, he has the bench to over come it.
