He is a homer, always has been always will be.

You and some Kentucky fans seem to have a rocky relationship. How would you characterize it?

I have very, very good friends who are Kentucky fans. I have relatives who are Kentucky fans. I'm primarily concerned with how they react to me, and they're fine. There's some fans that hate me and will hate me forever. That's the price of doing business. I don't have anything against the University of Kentucky, that's for sure. Sometimes I felt like it was my job to write something that wasn't very flattering, possibly inflammatory, and that's the way it goes.

Kentucky fans can be the best and the worst in the country. They're the most passionate, but also they take things to the extreme sometimes and that doesn't reflect well on them.

You've seen a lot of rivalries. What makes Kentucky/Louisville unique?

To me, it's very similar to Auburn/Alabama football. It's the only game in town, the only game in the state. It's year-round always. There's no pro sports to dilute the interest. It's good and bad. It makes it a great, great rivalry, but it also makes it a toxic rivalry. The UK/UL basketball week, thank goodness Christmas intervenes to soften it a bit, but the days and weeks leading up to it, the nastiness back and forth gets to be a bit much.
