Wow, that is one heck of a lot of points in a 40 minute game.

Losing a basketball game by 78 points was a better fundraiser than selling hot dogs at a football game.

At least that’s the attitude that Pikeville took, after getting clobbered by Kentucky, 141-63, in the Wildcats’ first exhibition game Thursday night. Pikeville head coach Joanna McNamee said that she knew her team would get “beat up” when they took on the Wildcats, but at least the paycheck they would receive from UK was a better way of raising money than working concessions.

If it had been a regular season game where the stats counted, Kentucky would have set a single-game scoring record Thursday night. The current record (133 points) was amassed against Baylor in four overtimes last year.

The stats didn’t count, though, and Kentucky had to live with scoring 141 in “only” an exhibition game. But its offensive explosion was on full display against an over-matched and outsized Pikeville team.

The stats were cartoonish: 80 points in the paint, 52 points off 37 Pikeville turnovers and a 56-89 (63 percent) shooting performance from the field for the Wildcats.

rlt, they sure are off to a good start and hope they play like that all season. I like to watch them play with their up-tempo style.
