The Kentucky Wildcats may have lost another key player during a scrimmage.
After losing Cole Mosier during UK’s first major scrimmage, it was Dorian Baker who suffered a significant ankle injury during Saturday’s scrimmage. Head coach Mark Stoops announced that Baker suffered a “substantial” ankle injury, and his status will be updated later next week.
Stoops also said he expects UK to play four freshmen receivers this year, which could be another hint as to Baker being out for a while. The season opener at Southern Miss is two weeks away, so there is still time for Baker to heal and not miss much regular-season time.
Now entering his senior season, Baker was expected to be one of the four starting receivers after an erratic first three seasons in Lexington. Drops and injuries plagued his junior season in 2016, though he caught a key touchdown in UK’s upset win at Louisville.
In 25 career games, Baker has caught 89 balls for 1,019 yards (11.4 avg) and six scores. We’ll provide more updates on Baker’s status when they become available.

The team has a 5th year senior leave for a chance to play with a heisman hopeful QB and now a receiver they are counting on to have a big year gets hurt.
Kentucky has depth and talent at receiver, but they need Mr Baker to get healthy and back on the field.
Hopefully they will have him back for the South Carolina game. The opener, Southern Miss is no push over, but they have a new QB and UK has more talent. Then they host Eastern, before they start SEC play. [ 08-20-2017, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

Baker will likely miss the entire season, with a broken ankle. I am hoping that some of the young guys will be ready to shine.
