The SEC creating a better non-conference schedule, writes Hugh Kellenberger of the Clarion-Ledger. “We are going to get better nonconference games overall in the Southeastern Conference this season, because of legislation that requires each school to play someone from a Power 5 conference or Notre Dame/BYU. But that does not mean you have to go to the other school at some point, or pay them more to come to you. Neutral site games are all the rage — Ole Miss and Florida State will play in Orlando; Alabama-Southern Cal in Arlington, Texas; UNC-Georgia in Atlanta; LSU-Wisconsin in Green Bay; and Tennessee-Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway.”

Good article, but it would be better if that rule was enforced in basketball. Too many SEC teams play only cupcakes in the non-conference part of the schedule, and that weakens the league's standing come NCAA selection sunday.

When it comes to football if the Cats didn't play a couple of patsies in their out of conference play they wouldn't win many games at all.

Yes, we need to make sure we can win the four non-SEC games to have a snowball's chance in hell to get to a bowl game. When you play eight brutal SEC games, unless you are in the top tier and are shooting for a chance at a NC, there is no need to add tougher OOC games. For Kentucky, that would be death. Heck, we barely were able to beat the Hoosiers half the time when we had that series going!

We play Southern Miss at home in our opener, then we play New Mexico State in our third game in Commonwealth and a home game against Austin Peay on the 19th of November.
