Mark Stoops won’t say if both Drew Barker and Patrick Towles will play Saturday night against Charlotte, but he says moving Barker to starting quarterback has created a spark for the Cats as they try to end their five-game losing streak.
“I've seen guys staying and working a little extra, just trying to again focus on the details and the little things that make a difference,” said Stoops Thursday after practice.
Stoops said UK has changed starters at other positions often during the season.
“That's what we need to get to. We need more and more guys and have that competition. I don't feel our team is that way, but human nature is if nobody's pushing them then they feel entitled and it doesn't lead to progress. We've got to get away from that and that's where having more and more players helps you,” Stoops said.
Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson said Barker has practiced with energy and is excited for the opportunity.

If Barker is able to help the Cats get a win against UL, I don't see Towles getting another chance to be the starter.
If so, I would hope that Towles switches to TE, where he has a shot to make it in the NFL. But, if he decides to tranfer, he will have to go to a lower division, because if he can't keep the job two seasons in and gets beat out here, he will get beat out at another D1 school.

Boom, I'm just afraid you're setting yourself up for a big letdown. Don't get too excited - Drew Barker is not the answer. With that said, I sure hope I'm wrong!

He should be for one game for sure as Charlotte is not a good football team at all.

Not sure about Barker. Have not seen enough of him. I have seen plenty of the other guy to know he has not been the answer for two seasons.

Tonight Barker should have a good game against Charlotte which should give him some confidence for the rest of the season. [ 11-22-2015, 09:00 AM: Message edited by: catmandoo ]
